John Naver's Cottage

Entering the house you walk into a sun porch with exposed stone walls which has lovely views over the garden, surrounding hills and estuary. The comfortable seating allows you to make the most of this room. Walk through into the open plan ground floor; to the right is the kitchen, dining and additional sitting area which has exposed beams, wood burning stove and Belfast sink finished with local Caithness flag stone. To the left is the lounge with comfortable seating, open fire, small library and television and DVD player.
The house has oil central heating. The stairs lead up from the lounge to the first floor, here the landing area contains a small DVD library and linen storage area, linen is included with this property. The bathroom contains a bath with independent shower above it. There is one spacious double bedroom and a further double bedroom with additional single bed.
Walk out the door and on to the beach - heaven for you and your dog, then come home to relax in the sun lounge. However it's also an ideal location for hill walkers, those with an interest in archaeology and or geology. The local museum provides a comprehensive insight into the past of the Highlands and archaeological finds in the area. Bettyhill has one shop and Post Office, a hotel, an Inn, and a cafe and a swimming pool. Locally sourced produce and sea food can be purchased and is also served in the local Hotels, which are dotted across the area.

We didn't stay long enough
What a great cottage! Alix was very accommodating and helpful while we got settled in. We were able to sample the cupboard cakes and they are highly recommended. We started every morning in the sun room with coffee and met several of the pea hens who were pretty entertaining. Great walk to the beach which we had all to ourselves. Our only complaint is that we didn't stay longer! Thank you again Alix!

Amazing!
This cottage was perfect for us! We enjoyed our time there very much. A lot of love and caring has gone into this home. It is very comfortable and relaxing. The location was perfect. The Croft with all the animals was entertaining. The host, Alix, was wonderful. She was always very responsive to our questions (though we tried not to bother her). Would love to return some day!

John Navers Cottage is a hidden gem
We loved this traditional cottage with mixes of old and new, it made it so homely. The kitchen is equipped with everything you could possibly need should you choose to cook. There is also a well stocked larder cupboard which was a pleasant surprise, just incase you’ve forgotten something. An air fryer which was a bonus. The location is just amazing, a 5 min walk from the cottage and you’re on the beach where you can walk for miles and hardly meet a soul! Fishing on the river Naver right on your doorstep too. We loved watching the lambs and horses from the sun room. Also had our daily visits from the peacock and pea hens along with their babies. And that’s all before you even begin to venture out to explore across the coastline. Absolutely stunning scenery. Highly recommend John Navers cottage for a comfortable stay and it’s in a central location for exploring further afield. Alix is an excellent host.

Marvelous stay!
John Naver’s cottage was absolutely marvelous! The location was beautiful, and the house was fabulous! Comfortable furniture, a beautiful kitchen, and a sun room that was perfect for tea in the morning, or a dram in the evening. Alix was an incredible host. Not only did she make us feel so very welcome, but when we had a bit of car trouble, she even found someone willing to help us out. We can not recommend this property highly enough!

Great North Highlands base
Very nice modified Crofter's cottage, perfectly located for exploring east and west along the North coast. Don't let the lure of Durness or John O'Groats make you overlook the local rivers and beaches right on your doorstep though. I could have happily stayed for another week exploring.

Piece of heaven!
We've stayed in the cottage in August for 3 nights. We loved it very much! The cottage is very clean, warm and cosy. The area is amazing and the Farr beach is perfectly located close to the cottage. We had the best weather until we left. Alix was very friendly and helpful. Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to stay there and enjoy the views . We would definitely come back here if we are in Scotland ❤

Lovely cottage in superb surroundings
The cottage was really comfortable and a delight to stay in - probably the best we have ever used. Lovely bedrooms and excellent facilities, including space for our dog. Perfectly situated close to a fantastic beach and only a short drive from the nearby village. Highly recommended.
