The Old School House. A beautiful house in the Hunter Valley close to Wollombi.

The Old School House is a charming house built on the site of the original School House for the local area. The original cook house chimneys still stand in the garden adding to the charm of the place.
You will feel like you've escaped the hustle and bustle of everyday life when you step out onto the deck and relax to the sounds of nature. It is a place to spend quality time with friends or love ones enjoying a bonfire in the winter while marveling at the beauty of the night sky with no light pollution.
It is situated so you are in easy reach of the local town of Wollombi which has a couple of restaurants, local shop and a few craft shops.
The Krinklewood Winery is a short 10min drive round the corner, but if you're looking to visit the main wineries in the area, they aren't far either. About a 35minute drive away.
The house itself consists of 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, kitchen, lounge room and a small snug. It has a lovely outdoor, undercover deck with fans and has been beautifully decorated throughout.

Great location and house

This property is great for a weekend away from everything. Set on its own secluded land, surrounded by farmland and hills, its close enough to Wollombi town for convenience but far enough away to get the break you need.

Great stay

Perfect location for where we were going for lunch but very remote so you need to be prepared for catering . Love shack could have had a queen bed and an extra toilet would be good when I have 6 adults staying .

Beautiful getaway!

We used this place for the groomsmen to get ready in for our wedding and then myself and husband stayed for our mini honeymoon and it was a beautiful house and we had a great experience with the owners. They have really thought of everything! Beautiful private location and close to all the hunter valley has to offer!

Peaceful country getaway

A fantastic weekend at a beautiful estate. Lovely country house with excellent facilities and views. Host was lovely and provided a lot of very helpful information on how to get there. Will happily refer to friends.

Beautiful Peaceful Surrounds

As the tittle states, really a beautiful, quite and relaxing place to visit and unwind. Lack of phone reception was actually a blessing and would love to come back to the property again with the children to get them off the screens and playing sports on the grass. Would love to be able to have campfires in the future when booking in different seasons.

A slice of heaven!!!

Our first impression of the home was “Look at this property! Look at the cute home! WOW!! Look at all the furnishings - we have everything we need!”. The only thing that could have made our stay better, is if we had booked it for longer! 😍 We are so grateful we were able to experience this small slice of heaven. Lovely property

We had a wonderful time at the Old School House. We went there during a very rainy weekend and thanks to the layout of the outdoor lounge and dining area, we were completely protected from the rain. It was nice and relaxing. The kids loved playing with the toys and the swing while we were just enjoying the view and calm of the nature. Note the property is just next to a road however we did not get to see many cars, so no noise pollution at all! The beds were super comfortable and the house was very cosy. Note one of the bedroom does not have a door so once someone is awake in the house, everyone is. And although it was raining a lot, wineries were very close by so we were able to get out of the house too.

Peaceful stay with everything provided

We had a lovely time staying at the old school house, it was so well equipped with quality items to make our stay as comfortable as possible- a really well stocked kitchen with everything to cook and serve. Relaxing on the balcony with wine, curled up by the fire inside, or building a bonfire in the fire pit made this such a fun weekend. Thanks x

Nice house but did not meet our expectations

As three busy working Mums in Sydney, we were looking forward to our weekend away in the Hunter Valley. As these weekends away are rare, we were happy to spend a little extra to ensure we had nice accomodation somewhere quiet in the countryside. We were disappointed on arrival to discover that our lovely three bedroom hideaway was, in fact a two bedroom with the outside (third) bedroom locked and unavailable to us. Upon enquiring, we were told that because of the size of our group, there were only 2 bedrooms set up for us. We then requested access to the additional room but were told that if we really wanted it, we could have access but there was dirty linen lying around and we could make the room up ourselves (however, the owner strongly discouraged this). Instead 2 of us had to share a room for the weekend. While this is not a hardship, it meant that no one quite got their own space for the weekend, which was kind of the point. Please note also that the loft room is completely open, so it's hard to move around the house when there is someone sleeping above. The house is lovely but might be more suited to a small family or a couple. Furniture was a more worn and stained that is shown in the photos. We didn't use the outdoor lounge and chairs as they were quite mouldy in appearance. For some reason the two smoke alarms in the house had been removed. Given the price point, rubbish should absolutely be included in the cleaning fee. Please also be aware, this house is actually beside the road which at the weekend is very busy with motor bike enthusiasts. If you're looking for a peaceful idyll in a rural setting, this is not for you.

A beautiful getaway

We had a wonderful time escaping to the country at the old school house. Very thoughtful touches like firewood ready and comfy surrounds made it a smooth rental experience and great property. Only suggested improvements would be to enable guests to discard of rubbish at the house - it was very inconvenient and unexpected to have to fill our cars with trash at the end of the stay. Thank you for a lovely stay!

A perfect country getaway

We had a wonderful time at the Old School House, the property is just beautiful with plenty of space for the kids to roam while still within view. The house itself has everything you need for a comfortable stay and the fireplace really made it the perfect winter retreat. You can tell that the place is well loved by Susan & her family and it feels like home to stay there. Thank you for your wonderful hospitality Susan, we will be back for sure.
