We arrived late and left relatively early the next morning, so we didn't have breakfast. (We had a peek into the dining area and it looked substantial.) When we arrived, there was someone to assist us, which was appreciated. The premises were very clean, and our room looked out onto the promenade. The decor is a little dated, but it's part of the charm. There's parking in front, and it's a quick walk to the centre of Oban.

We had a lovely stay at Alltavona! We loved our sea view room and enjoyed sitting in the chairs with the window open, getting a fresh breeze and watching the boats sailing by. The ladies who helped us were very sweet.

The location was excellent and the view of the Bay from our window was beautiful. We loved the historic charm of the building and are room was very comfortable. Carol and her staff were very helpful and accommodating.

We appreciated the deep silence of this stone, multi-floor structure that faces the harbor on a main thoroughfare. We recognized its two white gables as we exited the Isle of Mull ferry at 9:00 PM. Our key was waiting for us in a lockbox for late arrivals. The morning buffet (£10/person) was remarkably tasty and generous.

Cute place right next to the water

The place is right next to the water - unobstructed view. The 0.7 mile walk to center of Oban was nice in good weather but we got wet several time (expected this for October). Public transportation was hard to find so needed our car. Our room was a little small and cramped, but we could see other larger rooms. Check in and parking was a bit of a hassle. Great “Continental breakfast “ that included meats, cheeses, baked goods and more- well worth the modest cost

I had a wonderful stay. The property and my room were beautiful. I was greeted after a long day of driving with a pot of tea and a warm welcome. The views are fabulous and there is a nice place to walk across the street along the water and to restaurants , pubs, the ferry, etc. I had a special circumstance that came up and could not have been accommodated any better than I was by Megan. What a gem.

Very good property expensive during peak season

Used a reward night and booked a double king room which for the price £130 (had £95 reward), however I received a twin room. The hotel guest house was at a high standard and I slept a solid 10 hours on the single bed due to exhaustion and it was very comfortable. However if I had other plans then this would,have been very disappointing.

We had a great room, even if it was at the top of the guest house. The view of the water was terrific, the bed was comfortable, and the bath was lovely. One lovely surprise was that the guest house offers a continental breakfast! Only criticism we had is that parking is limited and we ended up putting our car on the street. As we were leaving early, this was not too bad, but travelers should be prepared. Also, if you don't want to haul your suitcase up 42 steps to your room, don't ask for rooms 6, 7 or 8.

If you are lucky enough to stay with Carol and all the lovely folks at the Alltavona Guest House, it will live in your memory like a beautiful dream. My room was so gorgeously decorated, I thought I was in an Agatha Christie novel (minus the murder, of course) where a lucky woman stays by the seaside in an Art Deco fantasy (greys, whites, metallics, nature, art, impeccable taste and style) and looks out at Oban Bay and never wishes to leave. The staff were so helpful when I asked for local recommendations (the nearby Dunollie castle is a 5-min. walk). The guest house is an easy 15-min. walk into town, along the water, a picturesque little beach, shops, and restaurants. You can sit outside the guest house on comfy cushions with your feet up and gaze at the water and the distant mountains and ponder your luck at being there. Don't even think about this decision - just go.

On arrival we were struggling with the key box and the (presumed) owner came out to help us. His demeanour was neutral at best, although he was quite friendly during the rest of the stay. When we saw the room we were really disappointed at the size and the facilities (coffee maker squeezed into a dark corner behind the coat hangers, broken showerhead). Going by the photos and because we had paid for an upgraded room, we had expected two armchairs. When we rang the bell to complain no-one appeared and when we phoned there was no answer to the two messages we left. The following day, on our return the lady of the house asked if the 'room was OK now'. Strange behaviour. The breakfast was outstanding and well worth the extra £10 each.

My husband and I stayed for 3 nights earlier this month, and it was delightful! The room was immaculate, and the view of the water was lovely. We appreciated the hot water pot for coffee/tea (provided in the room), as well as the mini fridge. The soaking tub was amazing, and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was delightful, essentially breakfast charcuterie! Cheeses, cold meats, breads, variety of fresh fruit, yogurt, cereals, juices, hot beverages, and hard boiled eggs. Ample amount of food for the cost of breakfast, especially since you'd have to walk to town to get breakfast elsewhere. However, the walkability of this guest house was great to restaurants and shops, while being quiet as well. The manager was great at checking if there was anything she could do to make our stay more pleasant. We hope to return to Oban and stay again! Only a few possible minor downsides, in case it's helpful to know: 1. It can be hard to make the temperature in the room colder if you like it on the cool side at night, for example, if you're an American used to having air conditioning in a hotel room, which this doesn't have. 2. There is a fee for breakfast; however, it's worth it! 3. If you have trouble with stairs and luggage, it could be hard if you can't stay on the first floor.

Gorgeous old property with lovely tartan carpet and cute nic nacs but the sparkle disappeared on arrival for our 2 night stay. Our booking showed “ground floor, double room, en-suite, king bed” but in fact it was second floor (attic with sloping roof), tiny bathroom, double bed. We are in our 70s, one of us is a large frame, so we always book large double or king bed. On the second night we got parked in, Carol was uncontactable, we had to knock on everyone’s door before finding the owner of the car who rather reluctantly moved it eventually.
