Charming period thatched cottage - close to beach & coast path.

The Quillett is a wonderful 350 year old traditional thatched cottage, just a mile from South Milton National Trust Beach. The cottage is perfectly situated to explore this idyllic rural area of the South Hams, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Fully renovated but in keeping with its heritage its a very comfortable cottage for relaxing holid4ays by the sea.
Steps lead up to the large traditional door, into the spacious lounge with a large inglenook fireplace. The lounge has two double sofas, an arm chair, dining table and chairs, 42 inch Smart TV, bluetooth stereo and DVD. A few steps down from the lounge is a well-equipped farmhouse style kitchen with a small breakfast table and chairs, which looks out to the front of the cottage. Steps lead out of the lounge to a sunny patio area with seating and continue up through the pretty winding cottage garden to a second secluded patio area with dining table and chairs to catch the evening sun. There is an off-road parking area for up to two cars at the back of the property accessed via a private lane.

The bathroom is half way up the stairs, and includes a roll top bath and a separate shower unit. Further upstairs, there is a good size main bedroom with a king size bed and plenty of storage. The cosy second bedroom has twin single beds with a built in wardrobe and drawers. Both bedrooms look out on to pretty garden areas. Our bedrooms are in the alcoves of the cottage with sloping ceilings.

The property includes electric radiators in addition to a wonderful large wood-burning stove. Bed linen and towels are included in the rental, along with a complementary basket of logs for the fire in the winter season. The cottage is strictly no smoking and sorry, we do not take pets.

CAUTION: We have a lot of steps & an awkward staircase so it is not suitable for those with walking difficulties
South Milton village is a traditional village with a beautiful old church and village hall. The local National Trust beach is famous for Thurlestone Rock and is walking distance from the house. The village is equi-distant between Kingsbridge , a bustling market town, set on the beautiful river estuary and Salcombe, with its beaches and prime coastal position. The famous surfing beach of Bantham is only 2-3 miles along the coast with Agatha Christie's Burgh island within sight.

This area of South Devon is loved for its rugged cliffs, sandy coves, peaceful countryside, pretty villages, rolling hills, secretive estuaries and dark night skies.
The South-West coast path is at its most beautiful here. There are lovely walks each way on the coast path from the cottage itself. We especially like Hope Cove - a lovely fisherman's cove with great eateries and spectacular views as well as the winding coast path round to Bantham surf beach via Thurlestone , overlooking the river estuary and Burgh island.

There is lots to do in the area from visits to naval historical towns Dartmouth & Plymouth to delightful Totnes. There are lots of activities for children on the doorstep as well as further afield. And last , but not least , a plethora of pubs, cafes and restaurants to frequent!

CAUTION : The cottage has a lot of steps inside and out , with a windy staircase which has a rope hand-hold - it is not suitable for anyone unsteady on their feet.

Flexible changeover days and short breaks are available!

Electric car charge available at the cottage - charged at weekly flat rate, added convenience in an area very short on charger points!

Lovely cottage
This was our base for walking the last leg of the SW Coastal path from Dartmouth to Plymouth. It was perfect. Recommend the Hope and Anchor in Hope cove. Averil was a superb host.

A cosy escape
The cottage was a perfect short xmas escape, and is well equipped for staying warm in front of the fire and the kitchen well-fitted even for a Christmas dinner. The roll-top bath was luxurious and the bed super-comfy. Driving the country lanes required a bit of patience in the dark winter days but there was plenty of lovely places to visit in the local area.

Lovely property, very comfortable and everything we needed. Just a couple of points to note. One of the small glasses was cracked so I put in the bin, The coffee machine leaks water when left after use, so needs emptying after use. Hairdryer cuts out after a short while of use.

Enjoyed my stay
The property looks lovely from the outside. I know its an old property and its probably because I'm scared stupid but there was a lot of spider webs around the cottage. But I have to say we had a great stay really enjoyed ourselves. Just a pity there isnt a pub in the village.

Thatched Cottage in South Devon
Compact cottage with secluded garden local to beaches and golf course. Parking difficult and stairs proved a problem.

Charming cottage in South Hams, Devon
Clean, cosy, well equipped cottage in peaceful location on edge of hamlet of South Milton. Ample off-road parking for one car in safe bay at rear of property. Back garden is a pretty flower-filled suntrap where we enjoyed al fresco breakfasts and dinners. Didn't hear a sound from the neighbours but lots of birdsong! A mile walk to the coast path or short drive to National Trust car park there. It's a great location to see such a lot of the local delights without having to drive far, including NT properties of Colyton Fishacre, Greenway (Agatha Christie's house), and Overbecks gardens. Plus idyllic Salcombe and Dartmouth and the wonderful coastal paths on this west side of the South Hams.

Full of character, comfortable and good location
Lovely cottage, very comfortable and full of character. Pretty little garden at the back, sheltered from road at front which is busy. Bedrooms also at back, so are quiet. Thatched roof keeps the cottage pleasantly cool in hot weather. Lots of stairs and steps so suited only to those with good mobility. Excellent walks and beaches from the door or within an hour’s travel, and some beautiful gardens to visit in the area. Good communication from owner. We really enjoyed our stay; had no problems at all and would highly recommend.

Gorgeous and comfy
We stayed at the cottage at the start of the Easter holidays. It is a beautiful cottage and one of the only places we’ve stayed which is exactly as it looks and us described in the listing. We had a very comedy stay, perfect location, and everything we needed for the week. The directions for arrival were excellent and really helped us find the cottage. Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful cottage.
