Family-friendly Kailua holiday home in Lanikai, walk to Kailua Beach
IMPORTANT NOTE: With the unfortunate passing of Bill 89, Hawaii seemingly does not want to accommodate families in whole home rentals on a short term basis outside of resort areas, which Kailua is NOT. It is very sad, as we are a tourist destination, but the City and County quickly passed sweeping legislation to make up for not addressing anything constructive regarding short term rentals for 30 years! Now they want to impose stiff penalties to owners of short term vacation rentals to accommodate a few (but loud) group of opponents including those that were operating illegally on the premise they were not paying taxes on their income received. WITH THAT SAID, LET ME BE CLEAR. I have joined a legal lawsuit against the City and County for an injunction on this unfair and all-encompassing legislation, especially as a law-abiding and tax-paying local resident that provides not only a valued service to my community, local jobs and (substantial) additional tax income to the State, in hopes to defining a resolution that will allow us a legal path in which to continue to operate under Hawaii law. Currently I do not have a NUC permit (only 808 issued up to 1989 for B and B's and small "condo" units in resort areas only) and the registration for permits are not going to be issued till October 2020 after eventual requirements and processes are further defined. Until then, I can only continue to operate within the parameters of the law as it is defined until the law can be redefined to benefit not only the State and its local residents, but also the tourists that want to visit our beautiful island (reminding the State that tourism remains to be our #1 economy ... for now). This home located at (address deleted due to Craigslist scammers) and can accommodate up to 14 people comfortably. Located directly across the street from the Kailua Beach Park and Boat Launch, this modern rebuilt two-story home has a front main house consisting of 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, 2 kitchen/bar, 2 living rooms, 2 laundry facilities, a lanai with ocean views and a garage recreation room. There is a yard behind the home as well. This home sleeps 14 max (with exceptions made for small children.) For sleeping arrangements there are 2 king size bedrooms, 2 queen size bedrooms, 2 queen sleeper sofas in the downstairs living room and 2 'dr. pitt' sectional couches upstairs that converts to a large sleeping area (suitable for 3 children or two adults). We also have port-a-cribs, high chairs and strollers on site. The bedroom floor plan is the same for both upstairs and downstairs (consisting of 2 bedrooms, 1 King master suite and 1 Queen bed with additional full bath each). They each have their own entrance, kitchen/bar, living room, dining area, lounge area, air conditioning in all bedrooms. We have laundry facilities upstairs and downstairs. The upstairs is more open and breezy than the downstairs with plenty of fans throughout. The downstairs includes use of the garage / recreation room with glass garage doors that open up. Separated costs: Upstairs only (2 bedroom / 2 bath) sleeps 6-8 max - $15,000/mo Downstairs only (2 bedroom / 2 bath) sleeps 6-8 max - $15,000/mo For additional room, if necessary, there is a back ohana house which is a second story addition that consists of 2 bedrooms and 1 bath. It has an ocean view, wonderful breeze and a wrap around deck. The ohana unit can comfortably sleep an additional 4 guests. This unit is $5000/mo and NOT included in this listing. Please check out #666202 for more information. Both houses have been essentially demolished and rebuilt from the ground up. Furnishings and design are comfortable, modern, contemporary and chic with luxury amenities and a classy touch. Pictures are still being updated regularly as improvements and additions are always being made. This home is well stocked with all the essentials you need for ease of travel such as shampoo, conditioner, soap, cooking items, coffee, spices, condiments, laundry soap, tin foil, baggies, cleaning supplies, paper towels, sponges, toilet paper etc... Recreational amenities for these homes will include complimentary use of outdoor equipment stored on site including 4 single kayaks, 2 paddle boards, beach chairs, towels, cooler and snorkel gear. There is also a luxurious outside shower for easy use of washing off the beach. CANCELLATION POLICY: Full refund if cancelled more than 60 days from scheduled arrival.

2 families and everyone was very comfortable!
This house was the perfect set up for our situation. We had two families in one house, with a range of kids from elementary to high school. This house is basically two houses in one. It has 2 master bedrooms, two kitchens and two large family rooms. When the teenagers wanted to go off by themselves they had plenty of space to do so downstairs. But when we all wanted to be together we could. The large kitchen table was amazing for dinners as we all had room to sit together. There was a book that provided recommendations for food, hikes and shopping, all of which were spot on. Each bedroom had it own air conditioner which was nice so you could cool your own room to whatever you liked. The beach was a very short walk away and the house was STOCKED with beach items from kayaks to goggles. They had it all! The house was very clean and well taken care of. We couldn't have been happier with our experience in this house.

The location of this property was great as it was right across the street from the end of Kailua Beach park however, we were not expecting the main areas ( living & kitchen) to be so hot as there was only AC in the bedrooms. In the description of the house, at the time of booking, there was a description sentence that noted “AC in all bedrooms” but we had overlooked this and had not expected there to be absolutely NO AC in the main areas. The main areas were too hot even with all the fans running that our young children who were using the large sofas as beds to sleep on couldn’t sleep at night. It was hard to hang out in the main areas during the day and in the August heat, the air was still and extremely thick. We had one good night bc of the trade winds that came through but we weren’t comfortable leaving the balcony doors open all night long as our young children were sleeping on the sofa beds. Amenities were good. Lots of life jackets and boogie boards and kayaks and coolers for use. We did bring our own boogie boards and beach mats but as there are other people staying in the back house, our equipment that was left out was accidentally taken and used sometimes. Communication with property manager was quick and efficient but we were disappointed that a solution for the heat issue was not explored. Extra AC units weren’t available and for the price of the house, not having AC would’ve been a deal breaker for us and we wouldn’t have gone ahead. Overall, we give 3.8 stars.
