Le Cabanon - Aotea Eco Luxury

Adults-only chalet in Great Barrier Island
Le Cabanon is a purpose built chalet, designed with nature based peace and exclusivity in mind.Nestled under the pohutukawa trees, it is luxurious, eco-sensitive and romantic. Private views of Tryphena Harbour and the setting sun from the spacious deck.
We have furnished the chalet with comfortable, functional and unique furniture.
Nestled in regenerating bush high above Tryphena Harbour, but a three minute drive from the beach, shops, cafe and pub
Birds will greet you, and if you are lucky the seemingly tame and astonishingly dexterous fantails will amuse you while you are relaxing in the giant bean bags on the front deck.
And at the end of the day lie in the comfortable king size bed and watch the vivid night sky through the windows
Le Cabanon has all the facilities you require including a fabulous shower, flush toilet, crisp linen and luxurious towels, cooking and eating equi[ment including a gas hob and barbeque, tea, coffee and milk.
A Bluetooth Bose Soundsystem is installed so you can play your favourite music,bring your favourite CD's or listen to your favourite radio station
Explore the beautiful Great Barrier (Aotea) Island or just relax on the deck or in the nearby garden.
A gas barbeque is situated on the front deck - so you can enjoy the views and the sunset as you cook you evening meal
The Cabin is located 500 metres up a steep (at times) track which ensures a private experience. Although some 2 wheel drive vehicles can achieve the drive we recommend 4 wheel drive vehicles. These can be hired on island.
Great Barrier Island (Aotea) is the only Island to be awarded the Dark Sky Sanctuary Status
100 km east of Auckland. 2/3rd's of the Island is conservation park, and it boasts stunning white sand beaches - both surf and safe swimming. Natural hot pools, gorgeous treks, of all grades etc etc
Special conditions:
4 wheel drive vehicles are recommended to negotiate the fairly steep driveway. In saying this many 2 wheel cars do negotiate it with no trouble.
As the chalet is off the grid we have to say NO to hairdryers and other high wattage appliances.
Should you require we can have a bottle of Veuve Cliquot Champagne chilled for your arrival
If you are wanting a late checkout - do ask - if there are no immediate bookings we will be happy to accommodate you

Extras: Linen (included); NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to: Clean the house and do the dishes before you leave;
Guest accommodation at this chalet offers air conditioning. Bathrooms include baths or showers.
The recreational activities listed below are available either on-site or nearby; fees may apply.

4/5 Good

Quaint and remote getaway
Enjoyed our stay at Le Cabonon! Cute, quiet and refreshing getaway. The place could have done with a more thorough clean as it was quite dusty and there were a lot of spiders/spider webs. There was some welcome chocolate in the fridge that had gone a little white and discoloured which made me think it’d been there for quite some time. Other than that, great place to stay in Barrier.

A Great Time
A lovely view & location. Thank you for the fresh beer & even fresher eggs! Can’t wait to come back to Aotea

4/5 Good

Beautiful views, after afew wee hiccups with check in great stay.
Stunning views in a beautiful home. We loved the fresh vegetables and eggs. Bonus to have some fresh bread waiting for us. We would recommend checking in with the property owner prior to arriving to ensure they have the correct details for your stay.

5/5 Excellent

Excellent cabin A+++
Amazing cabin in the Bush with sea views and everything you need on the barrier at you doorstep highly recommend

3/5 Okay

3 nights at Tryphena
Great location...comfortable bed. Tricky driveway which you do get used too. It's very close to other property... which we didn't realize and we had trouble passing vehicles parked at that property one night and had to inch by very carefully getting out in the dark to guide the driver...just inconsiderate parking. Property was not ready on our arrival but after 20mins with no phone being answered we managed to locate Angela who took us down to a Cafe for a coffee...picked us up 50mins later and put a bottle of wine in the handled very well. Cleanliness wise...a better job could have been done ...dusty shelves...fridge tops and grubby cutlery drawers....bleach marks on pillow cases ...made it feel less than satisfactory. Some water in the fridge would have been appreciated as you are advised not to drink the water. Property has lovely views....but is not so private with plenty of cars and people going up and down on property both sides of us. We did enjoy our time there though and if cleaning and neighbour parking was followed up would totally recommend....
