The Space:
The Plaza 531 is a renovated 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom condo in Mt. Crested Butte, set at the foot of Crested Butte Mountain Resort and a 3-minute walk to the Silver Queen and Red Lady lifts. The open-concept living area has wood-beam vaulted ceilings, fireplace, sofa that converts to a queen sleeper, and picture windows framing the mountain. The full-size kitchen includes range, dishwasher, coffee maker, and full-size refrigerator, with breakfast-bar seating for 3 and a dining table for 6.
Bedroom 1 (Primary King) has a King bed and an en-suite full bathroom. Bedroom 2 (Twin Room) has two Twin beds and an en-suite full bathroom. The living-room sleeper sofa converts to a queen bed. Total occupancy: 6 guests across 2 bedrooms plus the living-room sleeper!
The condo includes in-condo washer and dryer, large dining room table (perfect for family dinners), high-speed Wi-Fi throughout, and baseboard heating. No air conditioning — summer highs are mid-70s and ceiling fans plus open windows are typically sufficient at 9,400 feet elevation.
Shared Plaza amenities available to all guests include two hot tubs (one indoor and one outdoor on the third-floor deck), sauna, steam room, pool table in the lobby, tennis and pickleball courts with mountain views, and 2 covered parking in the Plaza lot. The building has elevator access and a private entrance. Self check-in via smart lock.

- Tennis and pickleball courts with mountain views
- Two covered parking in the Plaza lot — no assigned spaces, typically plenty of room even during peak ski season
The Neighborhood:
The Plaza 531 is located in Mt. Crested Butte at the base of Crested Butte Mountain Resort (CBMR), a 3-minute walk to the Silver Queen and Red Lady chairlifts. Crested Butte is a historic mining-turned-ski town in Gunnison County, Colorado, known for expert-terrain skiing, a preserved Victorian main street, and a designation as Colorado's official Wildflower Capital.
The immediate neighborhood around The Plaza is the CBMR base village. Within a 5-minute walk: Mountaineer Square (restaurants, coffee shops, ski rentals, ticket offices),Coffee Lab, A Bar Above, Butte 66 Roadhouse, and Gear demo and rentals at Butte & Co and Crested Butte Sports.
Historic downtown Crested Butte is 3 miles down-valley at the base of the Elk Avenue corridor. Highlights: Secret Stash pizza, The Breadery (farm-to-table), Soupçon (French-American), Kochevar's Saloon (established 1896), and the Crested Butte Mountain Heritage Museum. The Mountain Express shuttle runs between the village and downtown free of charge every 15 minutes in winter.
Summer activities: chairlift-accessed mountain biking on Evolution Bike Park, the 401 Trail (world-class singletrack), Kebler Pass aspens (the largest aspen grove in North America, peak color mid-September), Oh-Be-Joyful waterfalls hike, and Snodgrass Mountain trailhead (15-min drive). Winter: CBMR has 1,547 skiable acres with expert terrain on the North Face and family-friendly runs from the Red Lady and Painter Boy lifts.
Airports: Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport (GUC) is a 35-minute drive with seasonal direct flights from Denver, Houston, and Dallas. Denver International (DEN) is a 4.5-hour drive with shuttle options (Alpine Express, Dolly's). Rental Car Companies in our area: Hertz and Avis/Budget. We definitely recommend booking a rental car in advance since they do book up pretty quick!
Getting Around:
You don't need a car to ski — walk to the lifts, take the free Mountain Express shuttle downtown. A car helps for trailheads, grocery runs to Clark's Market, and day trips to Kebler Pass.
- Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport (GUC): 35-min drive — seasonal direct flights from Denver, Houston, Dallas
- Denver International (DEN): 4.5-hr drive — shuttle services available (Alpine Express, Dolly's)
- Free Mountain Express shuttle: runs between the village and downtown every 15 min in winter
- Winter driving: Hwy 135 is well-maintained; AWD/4WD or chains recommended during storms
- Parking: 2 covered parking at The Plaza — no assigned spaces
Other Things to Note:
HONEST DISCLOSURES — so there are no surprises:
3 PROS worth knowing:
- The walk to the lifts really is 3 minutes — we've timed it in ski boots.
- Both bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms — rare in a 2BR at this price point, and it means two couples never fight over a bathroom at 7am.
- The Plaza's indoor amenities (two hot tubs, sauna, steam room, pool table) make rest days easy — real kid-friendly après spots are rare in CB.
2 CONS worth knowing:
- Both hot tubs are shared with all Plaza guests — peak après hours (4–6pm) can get busy. The indoor tub area is usually quieter.
- We are not in charge of the hot tub maintenance and can not control the maintenance and cleaning schedule
- No A/C — summer highs are mid-70s so it's rarely an issue, but south-facing rooms can warm up midday. Open windows + ceiling fans handle it.
OTHER:
- Elevation ~9,400 ft — hydrate aggressively day one, go easy on alcohol that first night.
