About this property
Smoky Mt. Views - Hot Tub - Easy Access Cabin - Private - Dog Friendly - Fenced
“At Last - Above the Clouds” sets high on a mountain side with breathtaking views of the Nantahala Gorge and Great Smoky Mountain National Park. You can see Clingman’s Dome from the deck and hot tub. You can hear and see the Great Smoky Mountain train from the deck.
The log cabin has a fully fenced side yard for your dogs and a five person hot tub for watching the stars at night and mountains by day. The enclosed deck is connected to the fenced yard and is totally enclosed with a retractable gate that connects the deck to the fenced yard, This allows you to enjoy the hot tub and deck area that is contiguously connected to the screened porch. It is all about location, privacy and easy access to all the remarkable venues located in Western North Carolina / Tennessee Smoky Mountains and the Bryson City Great Smoky Mountain Train Railway system.
The cabin has two bedrooms and a queen size sleeper sofa for sleeping accommodations. Awaken in the primary bedroom to breathtaking views of the Smoky Mountains. The primary bedroom has a king size bed. You can actually see the awesome views from your king size bed. The guest bedroom has queen size bed. The cabin has one full bath with a shower / tub combination. Each bedroom has its own rocking chair for your private times to relax and read or look out at the spectacular scenery.
The kitchen area seats five adults and the living room is comfortably arranged with a queen sleeper sofa, rocking chair and accent chair for your family or friends. The kitchen is fully stocked for any cook’s expectations for meal preparation. The living room has a gas log fireplace for sitting by a cozy fire and additional ambience for romantic occasions.
There is a screened in porch facing the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This area has a porch swing with four additional gliding rockers to enjoy the sounds of nature without the nuisance of insects. Outside the screened porch is a massive enclosed deck area to sit and enjoy the countless views of the Smoky Mountains, Fontana Lake, Nantahala Gorge and Clingman's Dome. The enclosed deck area has a gas grill for outdoor grilling and a picnic table for outdoor dining.
The cabin can be reached through out the year via the paved road off Highway 74 / 19 and is easily accessible by car. The road is paved directly to your cabin door. I cannot emphasize how important this was to my husband and I to be able to bring our guest, family and friends to a cabin that can be reached year round and for individuals with limited mobility constraints. Our family also consist of five rescue dogs that needed a fenced in yard for their vacation needs. We can now relax on the deck and watch them run and play without any concern for their safety. In season, you can see the Great Smoky Mountain Polar Express and hear the train whistle. I highly recommend anyone to include this in your vacation plans. We are about seven miles from the train station in Bryson City.
The cabin has high speed internet and a smart tv with access to news and your favorite channels and internet platforms such as Netflix, Prime Video and YouTube. You are also able to access your cellular phone data and make calls or texts from the cabin which was really important to me. I wish I could be more descriptive regarding this fabulous location but if you are interested in spectaculer views, hiking, fishing or whitewater rafting, this is your best location.
All of our vacation rentals are dog friendly. There are no size or number restrictions for your fur babies. Only dogs (no cats) are accepted due to guest’s allergy concerns at our venues. We do require a non-refundable pet fee so we can properly clean and replace rugs and linens as needed between stays. The non-refundable pet fee is $75.00 for all dogs. Just make sure you click on the “pets icon” with VRBO to add that fee in as needed. “At Last - Above the Clouds” has the unique feature that I could not find for my pets and that was a totally fenced in yard for the safety of children and pets. The deck can also be closed with a retractable gate so children and pets can safely play. I have been a premier partner with all my VRBO vacation rentals since 2016 with my Panama City Beach House - “Anchors Away Beach House” (1040394) and my Mississippi Bed and Breakfast Cottage - “Long Leaf Cottage” (884716) which means you get exceptional quality every stay. I wanted to add the perfect North Carolina vacation cabin and I searched for years to find this cabin we purchased in 2022. We have the absolute best house keeper and care taker in North Carolina and Tennessee that is just minutes away if needed and I am just a text or phone call away if you need any questions answered. I hope you will enjoy this side of heaven as much as we have since our adventure began in 2016. All my best, Jo. (John 3:16)

Beautiful cabin with gorgeous view! Private but close enough to drive and visit several towns. The porch swing on the screened in porch was my favorite relaxing spot and the hot tub was nice as well. It was perfect for our dogs to enjoy with the fenced in yard and retractable gate so they could be outside playing. There was a fire pit with a bundle of wood ready to go. Also corn hole if you enjoy that. Our host Jo was very helpful in her communications with us and had instructions for everything in the cabin. Would highly recommend staying here! Perfect home away from home!!
We loved our stay "above the clouds"! Jo's cabin is perfectly decorated and equipped for a mountain retreat, and we were very comfy. Great for our pup, too!
This cabin was the perfect little spot to spend Christmas! We enjoyed the views and cozy feel. Would definitely come back here and recommend this host and cabin to friends and family
This was the perfect place to stay! It was super clean and decorated to make you feel right at home. The location is close to many locations of interest. The bed was incredibly comfortable and I didn't want to get up and get moving each morning! Fantastic location and I would stay here again!
Great place, would definitely rent again. The views were amazing. Easy access to the cabin. The cabin had everything we needed plus some. Our dog loved the little fenced in area in the side yard.
This cozy cabin had excellent views along with great location to NOC, trails, white water rafting, and plenty of other adventures.
Jo was very helpful with our questions and made us feel right at home with everything we needed. We hope to come back soon!
We rented this cabin for the week after labor day. Its a cute cabin with everything you need. The beds were super comfortable unlike other cabins we've stayed in. The view was absolutely beautiful. If your looking to unwind and get away from the city, this cabin will do just that. Its simple with a lot of rustic charm.
The cabin is secluded and private. It was very well furnished and clean, with everything we needed, including a kitchen well-stocked with supplies, pots, plates etc.
Our spaniel liked his fenced exercise area.
Jo responded quickly to our messages and was a pleasure to deal with.
We'd definitely be interested in staying there again given the opportunity.
I hike/ride at Tsali and Jo's cabin was perfect for me! Beautiful view and relaxing place to be. Only thing was that I'm allergic to the over abundance of glade fresheners in the house. They got boxed and exiled to the porch. Otherwise I loved the cabin and would stay there again if I can.
SPECTACULAR VIEW, breathtaking views from porch and balcony.
Very nice. Clean, neat, well furnished with updated applicances even though there was no dishwasher. Fenced in back yard was important for us since we took our pets with us.
Two things are most important to us when we book a rental in NC - a fenced yard for our pup, and location... a cabin with a view of the mountains. We have been vacationing in Western North Carolina for 20 years and usually stay in Maggie Velley but decided to stay near Bryson City due to the mess that is still I-40. The views from this cabin are incredible. We spent most of our time sitting on the screened in porch taking in the view of Kuwohi (Clingman's Dome) and the ridges in between. The cabin is an easy drive to Bryson City and the Tunnel to Nowhere, where there lots of hiking trails. The bed was comfy and the hot tub was clean. My only crticisms are not deal breakers, but disappointing. 1) Usually, a cabin has a "welcome basket" with a few K-cups of coffee/tea with creamers & sweeteners to get you started without packing extra supplies to start that first morning. In the cabinet above the Keurig I found two Folger k-cups and one McCafe k-cup. Nothing else, a little disappointing, but not devastating since we were going shopping for the week anyway. 2) I have never rented a cabin where there were not thick fluffy towels and bath sheets. We ended up using the beach towels we took for the hot tub as bath towels. The towels at the cabin were very thin and there were no bath sheets. All in all, we had a lovely week and would recommend this cabin - just take coffee supplies for the first morning and bath sheets if you love to wrap up in a soft towel after your shower.
My wife and I enjoyed our stay here. Smoky Mountains are incredible. The cabin was very nice and had everything you'll need for a stay. The only downside is we chose this one over some others because of it's gas wood stove. The pilot light went out on our 3rd night there and was never fixed(we were there for a week). Other than that we we liked it would come back again.
We loved staying in this cabin, super clean and the view was spectacular! I took so many photos of the ever changing colors and clouds of the mountains! Our host Jo was right there when we had trouble finding it and when the cabin below us had a water line break affecting us and leaving us with no water. She compensated us for our inconvenience and the water was back on the next morning. Hoping to come back in the spring!
We are a 501C3 organization who specialize in the care of mentally and physically challenged children. We always stay at Jo's cabin or beach houses if they are available. She is kind and makes sure that we are happy well caredfor at her vacation rentals. This is our second vacation at the cabin. We will return again. 5 stars. Thank you Jo. for
Part of our group didn’t make it in, so it was just my friend and I. We enjoyed the cabin and visiting all the areas around. The cabin was so nice and cozy and warm with the gas stove, the evenings were as restful and relaxing as the days!!! I do recommend changing the listing from a 3 bedroom to a 2 bedroom, we thought we were going to have 2 more adults and 2 children and it would have been tight but we would have made it work. Thanks for letting us enjoy your cabin!
We absolutely had the best vacation in the Smoky Mountains ever. The cabin was just as described but better. The hot tub was fantastic for relaxing after hiking and white water rafting each day. At night we watched the stars from the tub. So many stars to see. The views from this cabin are phenomenal. Can’t imagine a better view from anywhere in North Carolina. We were mesmerized by the different perspectives you see on the mountains based upon the morning clouds and after noon sunsets. Needless to say, we are returning as soon as possible.
Went to see the beautiful mountains and leaf changes in Western Carolina. The Great Smoky Mountains were beautiful. The cabin was convenient to everything in Bryson City, NC. The cabin has a fenced yard and is very easy to access. The views from the deck and cabin were spectacular. Just as advertised. It is truly above the clouds and with a hot tub for night sky star gazing. Great location for whitewater rafting and hiking the mountain trails. I can’t tell you how wonderful it is to finally find a cabin that is accessible and private at the same time. We will certainly return.

Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, listing accuracy
Impressive View
Since VRBO hounds you until you submit a review, I’ll make it short and sweet.
Pros: Impressive Long Range Mountain View, paved road all the way to cabin, nice cabin decor, cabin size is convenient and cozy.
Cons: Jets on hot tub didn’t work, lady bugs were swarming during our stay so they were in the cabin, a lot of traffic noise from the surrounding highways.
Note: We were offered a free night on a future reservation for the hot tub issues.
Went up to North Carolina for a hiking vacation over Thanksgiving week and loved our stay here. The cabin is easy to get to and had plenty of space. A few notes:
- Great location near Bryson City and the Smoky Mountain National Park (5min to gas & coffee / 15 min to downtown).
- TV (Dish) worked fine but the WiFi (also satellite) might not be fast enough for remote work.
- The kitchen is very well stocked for a rental property; had everything we needed (crock pot was nice to have for day hikes).
- The mountain views are incredible.
- The hot tub is built into the deck so you see stars overhead at night.
- Communication with the owner/manager was great.
- The queen bed isn't the best & the frame is a bit noisy, but it didnt keep us from getting good sleep.
- We would absolutely stay here again.
