“You cant beat the view!”

The view from the "superior" rooms is just amazing. You take 2 outdoor/funicular elevators to the rooms high up on the hill. Every room has an excellent view over the lake. You are slightly out of town, but its only a 5-10 minute walk to the centre of Varenna. The breakfast served was not an American or English style breakfast, although it was certainly all that you really need. I was content with breakfast. The hotel offers free wifi in the reception / breakfast / bar area and the speed was acceptable. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

“Beautiful views of the lake”

This was the last leg of a long trip and what a perfect place to stop. Eremo Gaudio is nestled into the hillside overlooking Varenna and Lake Como. We reserved a superior deluxe room in which it took two funicular and an elevator to reach our room. We had a small terrace with a grand view. The room had a king size bed, tiled floors, refrigerator, safe, and the bathroom was modern and updated. The room was clean and simple with good air conditioning. This hotel also offers free parking and parking is a real problem in these small lake towns. The road up to the hotel is very narrow (1 lane used for both directions) with tight switchbacks. Most of the secondary roads in the areas are like this. Not a big deal, we parked the car and walked everywhere (10 min. walk to town, return trip up hill!). The hotel breakfast is included (yogurt, breads, cheese, cereals, juice and coffee) which was served on a terrace overlooking the lake. We had dinner there one evening; the food was good and reasonable. We would definitely recommend this hotel.

“Heavenly hotel at Lake Como”

Just returned from a wonderful trip to Italy. Lake Como was definitely a highlight of the trip. Our hotel, Eremo Gaudio, was one of the things that made the time in Lake Como so special. The hotel is pearched on the side of the mountain and our room was high above the lake. After checking into the hotel, we took 2 funiculars to get to our room. The view from our balcony was fantastic!!! The staff was very helpful and friendly. The food in the restaurant was very good. We would definately go back to this hotel.

“Veranna, Italy's Breath Taking Charm”

The Hotel is located just a 5 minute walk to Varenna's shopping and restaurant center. The Hotel is physically located up the side of the mountain overshadowing Veranna and Gorgeous Lake Como. The Hotel has its private free lift that takes you up another 200 feet. The view alone is worth the price of the room. The 15 minute Ferry ride to shopping and restauarants in Bellagio is also a must.

“Spectacular View, Wonderful Staff”

It would be difficult to find a better view than the one from the patio of our room. We will long remember the time we spent sitting on the patio both day and night, soaking up the view of the lake and the mountains. The room was spacious and convenient, and the bed was comfortable. The staff was helpful above and beyond the call of duty. They made our stay in Varenna even more enjoyable.

“beautiful location but far from town”

This was definitely the prettiest location of any place we stayed in Italy right on Lake Como. We could enjoy the mountains and lake from our room and from our private balcony. If the room had a fan it would have been perfect. The staff was very good. The breakfast was also very good. The biggest rpoblem was that the hotel is a bit far from the tourist section of varenna and even farther from the train station so taxis are highly reccommended. The 10 euro each way must be considered in deciding on whether to stay here but as a small splurge it is worth it.

“Great value and even greater views”

The Hotel is a few hundred metres uphill from town and well worth the effort. We're not fit but made it OK during a heat wave. The room we had in the upper section (bellagio) was great with fantastic views from the balcony over Varenna and Lake Como. Half the experience was traveling up two funicular's to get up to this level. The staff were all friendly with Lorna particularly welcoming and helpful with advice and a smile. Dined there a couple of nights and it was pretty good. There was plenty available for breakfast each day. We would love to go back and will be telling friends all about the experience there.

“Wow - what a view!!”

This hotel was a quirky, wonderful surprise. You had to take 2 outdoor elevators to get to my room - on the way up, we thought "where on earth are we going?". When we got to our room - WOW!! - the view was amazing. We overlooked the lake, the towns, we could see the castle. We were both blown away. This was on day 10 of a 14 day trip and we were just amazed at our luck in getting this room. The hotel was a bit of a hike. We had planned to take a taxi from the train station, but no taxi's were available, and we walked it - which was doable as we are in decent shape. The internet did not reach all the way up to our room, but we didn't need it as we had the views. The breakfast was very good and included lots of coffee. Honestly, I only booked this hotel because all the hotels in town were full, but if I was to go back, I would definitely come back to this hotel. Once you find the hotel and get settled, the walk to town is not far. Ask for the Teodolinda room - unless I've already booked it!

“One of the Most Memorable Hotels”

This is one of the great gems of all our travels, giving a wonderful "mountaintop" view of the beautiful Lake Como and a unique and memorable experience of "the high life".
