“SO much better than what I was expecting...”
I heart the The Oceanside--it is awesome! It is an older building, which has been updated quite a bit, and we were given a corner suite. It was really nice! Honestly, it was much nicer than I was expecting! There were 3 of us so one person slept on the pull-out sofa, which, as long as you are under 6' tall, is pretty comfortable. There was a separate bedroom. The kitchen was great! Fully stocked. There were plenty of pans and dishes, etc. The view was interesting--very metropolitan. Free internet and free parking in their underground garage. Beware: it is tight parking so no jumbo vehicles! If you are looking for a 5-star, Egyptian cotton sheets, and room service, this is not the place for you. This place is more like having your own simple apartment in the heart of Vancouver. Across from the beach, very close to Stanley Park and near a ton of shops and restaurants, I plan to re-visit this hotel again! I recommend this hotel to everyone who can appreciate simplicity. The Oceanside is clean and safe. The staff is helpful and friendly. We had a great time and will go back soon!
“Great Location Plus Full Suite”
Oceanside Hotel won't win any beauty prizes, but you're already forewarned with its star rating. But the hotel is literally one block away from the beach and the seawall at the southwest end of Stanley Park. There are a bunch of good restaurants and bars on Denman one block away and a Whole Foods about six blocks away. With the kitchen and living room, this place is a great bargain.
“Great Rates in a Great Location”
Lots of space in this converted apartment building; every room is a suite. While not brand new, the room was well appointed and comfortable. Location next to Stanley park is great, and the bus stops just a few feet away to take you anywhere you want in downtown. Secure parking is free and it's pet friendly. Staff was very accommodating and friendly. Would definitely stay there again.
“Ideal location for hop on-hop off tourist bus and Engilsh Bay (beach)”
Very happy, ideal for family, kitcehette useful. Note: no elevator for those travelling with heavy bags.
“Nice location near the beach”
We were happy with the location of the hotel. It was a one-bedroom apartment with kitchen appiances. It would have been great if you were staying for a week or so. It was clean and the staff at the desk were friendly and helpful. The only drawback was there wasn't an elevator but we were only up one flight of stairs. I loved the location; near the beach and walking paths, trolley etc. Also there are several ethnic restaurants only a block away. Yes we would stay there again and recommend it to anyone.
“NO!”
While the hotel location was excellent, the hotel staff was horrible. The hotel itself was not bad for the price. They need to indicate that they do not have elevators. I had to walk up 3 flights of steps to get to my room. They were late on getting my room ready and everytimie i asked for something it seems like an inconvience to them.
“Do yourself a favor and pay extra an stay in a decent hotel”
I expected this hotel to be very comfortable and nice considering all the great reviews. The hotel is run down and actually should be considered a motel. I reserved 2 non-smoking queen bed room (comes with a kitchenette) but when I arrived they only had 1 queen bedroom and gave us a double bed room even though I reserved for 2 queen bedroom via expedia- red flag 1. When I got to the queen bedroom it smelled of cigarette smoke even though I signed up for "non-smoking" room - red flag 2. They only have 6-10 indoor parking available on the back of the hotel/motel and they won't let you have a remote unless you have them preapprove $50 on your credit card-red flag 3.There weren't a lot of outdoor parking since this area is very busy. One thing I noticed is that even though this are is closeby Denman/Robson, I don't recommend anyone walking around after hours--it's creepy. There are tons of crack-head looking ppl hanging out @ 7-11-red flag 4. My first night staying there I barely slept cos of the smoke smell, dingy hotel towels and I don't feel safe due to the area. The room doors can be easily broken to due to the age of the hotel. It just felt like a cheap motel. I won't stay here again. The only reason why I'm giving 2 stars is because service is not completely bad. The lady who helped us the first day was a mess but the 2 guys that helped us the couple days following knew what they were doing. They also moved us to another room and gave us refund for the double bed room.
“Reasonably priced and in a great location”
Older hotel but reasonably priced, clean and close to the water. There are tons of restaurants and overall a safe neighborhood. Close to lot of great restaurants and in the West End.
“Not what I expected”
I would not recommend this hotel at all. It is not worth how much I paid. The heater did not work in our room and we stayed on a cold rainy weekend.
“A great hotel for the price! Very helpful staff, more like staying in a friends apartment.”
The Oceanside hotel is great for the budget traveller, who appreciates good location and great value. The amenities are few but having a 1 bedroom apt as opposed to a hotel room was great and being able to make breakfast in the room before a day of sightseeing or sking was a big help. Really friendly staff
