“Perfect for travelers”
We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. The location - E. 32nd Street - was great! #6 subway station at the end of the street, few blocks from Macy's in one direction, 42nd Street in the other, lots of great stores and restaurants all around you. A cafe is attached to the hotel which serves breakfast and has take out. Front desk staff and maids were very pleasant, room was super quiet. We would definitely check out availability here first the next time we stay in NYC.
“No Coffee! No Room Service!”
The hotel and the staff were excellent. However, it was impossible to get coffee in the mornings without going out and walking a block and a half to find a place open. They have no coffee pots in the rooms and the room service they advertised was "not working" during my stay. Otherwise it was an overall good experience.
“Helpful reception staff”
The reception staff at Grand Union were very helpful and provided great advice about the hotel, airport transfers and sites to visit in New York. The provided a subway map and a street map of the city on arrival which was very useful. Good information available in foyer. Room comfortable and clean. Lift a bit slow, but worked.
“Nice”
Location was great.Staff very helpful.Had a bar fridge (rare in US)
“Very good hotel option”
No problems, very good Hotel and the crew is very nice
“bed bugs!”
we had seperate double beds and my wife got about 20 bites on her back and arms, these where not mozi bites. I didn't get any, sleeping in the other bed, we had already booked a further night 2 days later.different room, no bites on either of us
“New York City Gem, With Everything Around the Corner”
I come from a town of 250,000, and had low expectations because the price was just above a hostel-type place where you have to share a bathroom. I found a very elegant room with high cielings and crown molding, marble bathroom and really helpful staff and cleaning people at all hours of the night, every single request was met quickly. I felt very safe, loved the reading room, their books, and the accesss to the internet meant I didn't have to risk bringing my laptop. Black tie service from everyone, great location to catch a taxi, bus or subway. Ate at the cafe next door quite a few times. I'm very tall and found the shower very comfortable. Even after we checked out, we had a problem with the taxi and they helped out with the help we were asking for. Next time, I'll pay extra and have them get a taxi for me, then I won't feel stranded. What is the downside? The view is a brick wall and you have to crook your neck to see the sky, but that's true in a lot of New York. It has narrow hallways, but if you're used to New York, that's what you get. This place is a clean and elegant beauty with staff who take pride in keeping it that way. Thanks so much for giving us small townies a great experience in New York City!
“NOT TOO BAD FOR NEW YORK PRICES”
A LL WAS GOOD EXCEPT THE OLD BLIND WAS DEFINITLY DUE FOR REPLACEMENT, AND THE DOOR NEEDED ADJUSTMENT FOR SECURITY OF CLOSING.
“Old Hotel with weak shower and window unit ac”
Although our fam probably saved money, i would not stay at this hotel again. The three beds were nice to have with a family of four but the window ac covered the double bed area and not the twin bed area. Also the shower hd little water pressure. I washed my hair under the bathtub faucet. The room had an advertisement for room service but there was none. (So wny advertise?) Very few restaurants were around the place. Next time I will spend the extra bucks and get closer to Times Square.
“Location @ great price”
The Grand Union is in a great location, blocks away from times square, next to a subway station - The staff is very helpfull, the hotel is clean, it is modest and the decoration a bit off but completely adequate for price. It has air conditioning, heating, plus surrounded by cafés & restaurants for eating options. (Surroundings) located in the Korea Lane, NYC is not especially recognized for cleanliness, so when walking @ night, being surrounded by korean restaurants ... with garbage on the sidewalk... smell isn't particularly to my taste. Never the less, great price, convinient location, great staff.
