“Can' beat the price”
Our rooms exceeded my expectations based on the price and relatively late booking. The rooms were good sized with modern bathrooms. The hotel reception desk/office was difficult to find, but once that hurdle was cleared we were treated very well. La Locanda actually occupies a portion of a large building, which is a common thing in Italian cities. Our rooms in Rome worked the same way. Still, a little bit of signage would go a long way. We received a 20% discount at restaurant associated with the hotel, LaTana ell Arte, which was excellent and worth a visit on its own merit. Julia speaks good English so ask her for her recommendations for city sights. In fact she had a ready-made hand out on file to give us. I imagine she could e-mail it to you ahead of time. Naples is gritty at first sight but we never ever felt unsafe. I think comments to the contrary are overblown. While the location is not bad, but I would reccommend staying near the main train station IF you plan to use Naples as a base from which to travel. However, the hotel is just one easy one Metro stop (Cavor or Metro) away from the main train station. It is only a couple blocks from the Archeological Museum. The museum is well worth seeing. You’ll get more out of it by visiting Pomppei or Herculeum first. We were a father & daughter traveling together and chose to get a couple of two star rooms vs one three or four star.
“Love to go back”
What a great surprise this holet was. We caught Metro from train station and walked up street to large double doors locals very helpful with directions. Once inside where they are doing renovations to the buliding is was a surprise to see and old lift which cost 10 euro cents to ride to 2nd floor. We were greeted by very pleasant girl who explained all details of hotel and informed us that the hotel building was 600 years old, but don't worry all the convieniences are modern and in good working order. Our room overlooked the University next door the hotel is in good position for walking around the city close to Metro and buses. We have changed our minds about modern versus old world charm. We now look for the oldest hotel we can find with wifi of course!! No hesitation in recommendening this hotel..
