“Very good deal overall”

I would go back to this hotel for sure. The room was okay: not very large bed and a bit of cigarette smell, even though non-smoking. Bathroom though was very nice and new. The rest of the hotel, including breakfast was very pleasing to me and my wife. Location excellent!! Overall an excellent deal. Very nice staff also.

Exactly the area of Persal. Many attractions nearby and easy access to metro (subway).

“Great Location - Do Not Take Room on Plaza del Angel”

Great location, truly amazing in the center of everything. Simple but nice rooms. The front rooms get a lot of street noise. Worse, was the noise from the lobby echoing up the stone floors. This woke us every night even though we went to bed after midnight.

“great location / nice, clean rooms”

“More than a Hostal”

This hostal was nicer than many cheaper hotels that we have stayed. From the moment you reach their doors you feel you are at a nice hotel. As expected the room was smaller than some but there was plenty of room for luggage and relaxing. The room was clean and the bathroom was fine for our family of 4. I do have to say the staff was outstanding! They were very friendly and helpful with all our questions and even reserved a transfer to the airport with a local company. After checking in they brought us and our luggage to our room. When you leave Persal you drop the key at the desk and pick up upon return so there is no chance of losing them or having to carry it around all day. My children took turns getting the key and the staff had the key ready the moment they saw them coming through the door asking them what they visited and if they had fun. It was nice to find a family friendly hotel! Breakfast was good with plenty of choices typical of Europe. I would highly recommend Hostal Persal to everyone, especially families. Great location, rooms, and staff!

“No frills, personal service”

This is a friendly, family-run hotel. Our rooms were recently renovated and very clean and quiet at night. The staff were very friendly and quickly remembered our names. Breakfast buffet was worth the extra cost. The best thing however is the location - close to everything and a short walk from the main railroad station. During our visit in March, the square was quiet at night (it is a pedastrian zone) while the adjacent St. Ana sq. was much louder. - Excellent value for money.

Area recommendations

Clostest subway stop is "Plaza del Sol". There are numerous cafes and restaurant all around.

“Smack dab in the middle of the Heart of Madrid”

This hotel, 1 block from Plaza Mayor, is within walking distance of EVERYTHING. The employees were courteous and helpful. While small, the room was clean, comfortable and included a safe for valuables. I chose not to purchase the breakfast. Loved it and would most definitely go there again.

“Good value in the city center!”

This hotel is a great concept that more cities should have -- a very basic but affordable room in the city center, where all other hotels are unaffordable for people on a budget. I only had 2 days in Madrid and didn't want to waste time traveling to and fro a hotel. Hostal Persal was so close to everything that I could even go back mid-day for a quick rest. My room was tiny and basic, but comfortable enough and with CNN in English. But the staff were VERY kind and helpful, and I would recommend Hostal Persal to anyone who agrees that location, location, location are more important than having luxurious accommodations.
