“A gem in downtown”

I was extremely impressed with the quality of rooms, cleaning, service and staff of this hotel. The hotel was formerly an apartment block, so all the rooms are quite spacious with wood-panel floors and large comfy beds. Complete with bathroom, desk, LCD TV and free parking - this hotel is fantastic value for money. Wireless internet is provided to all rooms for free and there is a spare computer at reception if you need. I spent a bit of time talking with the various staff - all very welcoming and knowledgeable about local attractions, and places to eat and drink. The hotel is located in the vicinity of Koreatown - I found the neighbourhood was safe and quiet, the surrounding building are mostly other motels / apartments. You can walk two block down the road to some shops / ATMs / fast food places and then it is about 4 blocks to walk to Wilshire / Vermont metro station (3 metro stops will get you to the Hollywood Walk of Fame). The only downside is the parking - it is free, however there are only about 16 spaces underneath the hotel, so its a first-come-first served basis. However, you can always just leave your keys with the hotel staff and they will "valet" park your car. Overall, amazing value for a 1-2 person stay if you visiting the LA area.

“Very impressive”

Upon reading other reviews of this hotel online, it was clear that it was renovated very recently, as all bad review were submitted 2 years ago and more. Once we arrived at the hotel we found it to be extremely well remodeled, with all the bells and whistles that expensive modern hotels have BUT charge you 3 times more for. Plasma TV, huge king size bed, lots of confy furniture, huge bathtub - all in all it was unbeleavable that it was so affordable. I'm not familiar with LA to say if the location is good, but looking at the map of the city this hotel is very close to Beverly Hills. It's located in what is called Korea town, but there's lots of places to eat near by other than Korean food. If you're travelling on a budget, don't think twice and stay here. I definitely recommend this hotel.

“A really great hotel room!”

The room was beautiful. I loved the hard wood floors and new furniture. They have Direct TV but do not subscribe to all of the channels. The water pressure in the shower could be stronger.

“Excellent price for LA”

We were very impressed with Shelter Hotel for the price. It was only alittle more than a motel and the bed was massive and very comfortable. There was free wifi and the area felt very safe. Recommendations would be that the staff need to know more about the area as we asked for somewhere to eat and they just said 6th Street and also the water pressure was poor on the shower. However we had a great stay and the hotel was really nice and modern and we would definitely stay again.

“Much nicer than expected”

At first glance, the hotel seems underwhelming. The hotel looks extremely unimpressive from the outside. Check-in is an office desk sitting in a small room. So imagine my surprise when I entered my hotel room to find it extremely stylish and comfortable. The mark of any good hotel is a good bathroom, and the bathroom was exceptionally clean, as was the bed. The bed was supremely comfortable; for a student who can't afford really expensive hotel rooms, it was one of the best hotel beds I've slept in. The biggest knock is the location of the hotel. My conference was at the LA Convention Center, 3 miles away. There is a subway station less than a mile away, but it was less than ideal most of the time. On the other hand, there are a lot of Korean restaurants close by, so good Korean food is never far away.

“Highly recommend this hotel!”

Hotel was newly opened and there were a few minor glitches, but the hotel staff was extremely attentive and went out of their way to take care of any minor inconveniences. I would highly recommend this hotel. Good neighborhood and centrally located with free secure parking.
