“Good Location Tiny Room”

I stayed in this hotel for 1 week for a trip to London. I reserved a room as it was in the center of the city and close to two underground stations (Victoria and Pimlico). Unfortunately, this had to be the smallest hotel room that I ever stayed in. Please note that I had one of the larger rooms (two beds). The bathroom was literally about 1/4 of the size of my closet at my house! Would NOT recommend a stay. I think you could find something better for a similar price range. Pros: Location near 2 underground stations and in the heart of the city. Staff was friendly. Many restaurants, shops, etc just north of the hotel near Victoria Station. Cons: EXTREMELY small room and bathroom (bathroom dimensions were approx 4'x4', You actually had to stand in the shower to use the toilet. The sink was a "mini-sink", the kind you find in prison cells). No refrigerator. To use the room safe was another 2 pounds per day. Breakfast another 5 pounds daily. No closet, only a 1'x1' standing mirror with hangers. Poor sound insulation (you could hear people upstairs walking around on creaky floors and do NOT get a street facing room if you mind loud traffic noises, even with windows closed). Overall: 2/5. I would recommend staying at another hotel. If I were the owner of the hotel I would recognize that with such meager accommodations there should be free breakfast, wall safe, mini fridge, and free internet. This would be a minimal cost and make up for some of the inherent negatives.

Area recommendations
I would stay as close to the city center as possible. Perhaps more importantly stay at a hotel that is very close to the underground and you can purchase daily/weekly passes. London has one of the best subway systems in Europe. The trains come every 2-3 minutes. I would say that proximity to an underground station is more important that any specific area as you can get to almost anywhere in the city in 15 minutes using their underground system.

“No Air Conditioning?? no parking, but great locale”

Let me start with saying that the area of the hotel is great, plenty of places to eat in walking distance. 10min walk to the subway that can take you to all the best locations in London. Bus stop right out front. I guess this is partially my fault for not understanding what a "standard" room in Europe means, but there was NO air conditioning in the room. It was also very small, but adequate. The window was to a hallway that leads to the breakfast room. Breakfast and internet are NOT included. Internet is quite expensive. I do not know where the nearest parking garage is. We parked out front but had to leave at 8:30am and not come back until after 6pm or we would get a parking fine. That worked out because we had a lot of places to visit, but could have been very restrictive if we wanted to sleep in at all.

Area recommendations
All of London was AWESOME. I highly recommend going straight to the subway station and getting day passes for your group to use the subway and the busses unlimited all day. You can zip from place to place without the hassles of traffic circles, traffic, finding parking, or anything else. I loved this neighborhood, we found food quick, and there was a corner store next to the hotel. Tower of London was a great experience, and Tower Bridge. The Eye was fun, and a great shot of Big Ben from it.
Getting around
Get a day pass for the Subway and Bus and it will shave off tons of time searching for parking.

“would stay again”

The hotel was in a great location with restaurants and pubs nearby as well as it was within walking distance to attractions and Victoria Station. The rooms were small as bathrooms had been added to each room which cut down on space. Don't go there if you plan on spending lots of time in your room as you will be disappointed. We were there to see London and basically just slept and showered there. The rooms were clean and beds comfortable which met our needs. It had an elevator which many small hotels do not have and was great for hauling luggage. I would recommend it to other travelers familiar with European sized rooms, not to anyone wanting American sized ones. It was a great little hotel and we had a wonderful time. We did not have the breakfast there as we walked to one of the many little restaurants a a block or so away for the full English breakfasts. We enjoyed it all.

Area recommendations
We enjoyed staying in Westminster as it was close to attractions. We took the tube, bus, or taxi to other outlying areas.
When to go
We went the middle of March and the weather was great....a bit cool, but no rain.
Getting around
The #24 bus goes by hotel. Hop on across the street and it will take you to Westminster Abbey and save you walking. If you arrive at or leave from Victoria Station, you can walk to the hotel or cabs are easy to find for about 5 lb. including tip.
What to pack
layers...it was cool to breezy and chilly, so we wore different layers with hooded jackets
Dining
There were several pubs within a block. There were little cafes for breakfast a block or so away. Right next door was a great Italian place. We ate there one night and on another night we got a take out pizza and a bottle of wine from the grocery across the street and took it to the hotel when we were very tired. There was a good Mexican restaurant and many other choices within walking distance.

“Nice small hotel, conveniently located.”

The central House Hotel Victoria is well located near Victoria Station, and at walking distance of a central tourist destination: Buckingham Palace! The rooms are small, but with all necessary amenities (including a water boiler). The place is clean, and the desk people are competent. The only setback is that the WiFi system doesn't work with Safari, so if you have a MacBook or an iPad, you are stuck. There are nice small cafés and restaurants in the immediate neighborhood, which make the experience even more enjoyable.

“So not worth it!”

First of all, this hotel is not exactly cheap. For the price this place is crap. The bathroom is so small and ghetto that I refused to shower in there. The room had a weird smell. Then on the day we were checking out, the elevator broke. So we had to drag all our luggages down the stairs from the 4th floor!

“OK”

The hotel rooms were small, only about a foot between the twin beds. The bathroom was more like a closet. Stayed here because it was cheap and somewhat close to attractions. I would recommend just traveling from an airport hotel since it's cheaper and bigger. The area was ok, not many people out in the evenings though, but definitely not shady. The room was clean and ok for two students backpacking the weekend through London. For an extended stay or families I would definitely recommend finding another place.

Traveller's tip
I would recommend saving a few dollars and staying at a cheaper hotel around Heathrow. Shuttles from the airport are somewhat pricy, but a cab could be hired for possibly cheaper if shared. This is of course if you have enough time to travel by underground into London the next day.

“worth it”

For the dollar it was a TERRIFIC location! Not anything fancy, and the plumbing was average...but we'd stay again if need be. The pub at the corner St. George's is a MUST - ask for Wally!

Traveller's tip
St. George's at the corner of Belgrave directly outside the south entrance to the Victoria Station.

“An unfortunate stay”

Our hotel room was the size of walk-in closet. The was only about 18 inches between the beds and the walls. There was not even room to leave your luggage open or out of the walk way. There is no air condition so the room was quite hot since the only air flow was the 2 inches that the window opened. The bathroom was the size of a small half-bathroom. When you showered in the very small standing shower, the water flowed over the entire bathroom floor so there was no way to change in the bathroom after you showered. You had to request for more toilet paper when you ran out because it was not automatically stocked. The TV (about 10 inch screen only had 3 channels.Overall, it was barely more than a hostel.

Traveller's tip
This hotel is located in Victoria so it is close to the subway and local attractions such as Westminister and Big Ben.There are many eating places within walking distance.

“nice hotel. great staff!”

Rooms were small, but clean. Staff went above and beyond - out of their way to help us with everything from printing our tour vouchers for us, to finding our way in London.
