“Cool Capsule Experience”
Great experience. Very different. No room for bags in the lockers or near the beds, but they kept them in the lobby. Showers and bath was awesome. The beds were very comfy. Just hope you don't have anyone who snores in the room. It's very quiet and nice and dark. Toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, shower gel, hair dryers, pyjamas, and towels are all provided. The pyjamas are too small for most westerners - get the large size if you can - I missed out both nights.
“Different than any other place”
If you want to experience a stay in a capsule hotel, this is a great one to try. Be aware though that capsule hotels have very little privacy and this is definitely not like a regular hotel. Key things to be aware of: - Bathroom facilities are clean and split by gender - You are expected to store your belongings in a locker at the bathroom level and change into PJs provided by 9h - Capsules are located on floors with about three dozen capsules close to each other. These are dark floors, no windows. The capsules are close, there's very little in terms of privacy, though you can close your capsule by lowering a shade. - When inside the capsule, be sure to wear earplugs. You can hear the other guests enter, move, snore, pass gas, etc. - There is little room to do anything in your capsule, except read a book or listen to your iPod and sleep. Beds are comfy. - A capsule will fit one person, you will not be able to share a capsule and if your travel partner is of the opposite sex, he/she will be on a different floor. - 9h isn't cheap. There are cheaper places in Kyoto that have private rooms. I did enjoy my stay and would recommend it especially to solo travelers. You will have a cool experience and something to tell your friends about. Don't plan to be lounging though, the hotel really is meant for sleeping only, show up, change, wash up and go to sleep.
“Neat Experience, Great Location to Downtown Kyoto”
So, if you're never stayed in a capsule hotel in Japan this is the one to try. Very clean, great location, reasonably priced. Just a few blocks from the subway and train stations, interesting Kyoto nightlife, sightseeing, and shopping. The hotel itself is basic but the capsules are comfortable and the locker/shower/dressing rooms very clean and accomodating. Free wifi in the lobby/lounge area. Be sure to take your shoes off as soon as you walk through the door (even before the reception area). Overall, very nice experience for a capsule hotel.
“Great Stay at 9 Hours”
Very new and clean. Close to the Gion area with lots of shopping, temples and the famous geisha district. Capsule was quite roomy and comfortable. As a desiger, it was a fascinating "hotel" concept and well done. I had a great night's sleep and a very efficient stay. The capsule is a great way to get a truly authentic Japanese experience.
