“Happy 3 NIghts in Kyoto”
Very happy with the hotel facilties. Hotel is located in a convenient area close to many shops and attractions (e.g. Pontocho, Nishiki market, Teramachi streets, and Gion). Staffs are very friendly and offered good and warm service.
“Very good quality hotel in central location”
Excellent location near shops and restaurants and transport. Nice clean modern hotel with reasonabvle sized room.... very good
“Pretty Good Hotel for Tourists in Kyoto.”
The hotel is pretty good. Everything works as expected. Above normal English for Japan at the reception. The location of the hotel is awesome. It is close by a number of shops and attractions, but more importantly it its on almost every important bus and subway route. It is close by the river for evening strolls. The hotel is not near a JR line, but tourists coming in on the Shinkansen should stop my the Tourist center on the station to get a map and a introduction on how the bus and subway system works in Kyoto - it is pretty easy and convenient to get to the hotel using bus or subway. It is also possible to walk to the hotel if you don't have any heavy luggage. The rooms are clean. The TV has English BBC. I did not get the opportunity to get to use the extra facilities (Spa and Bar) but I am sure they should be quite good. I will definitely recommend this hotel.
“Not a 4 star---- barely a 2.5 star”
We would not stay here again and not recommend anyone expecting 4 star room condition to stay here as well. When we checked in the staff was very friendly, went up to the room to find the ceiling with peeling paint, and the bathroom ... Flush not working and sink had been painted over with several spots of peeling paint... We let the reception know about the bathroom flush not working and they kinda blew it off.. When we came still not working... All I can say, not a good experience at all. Asked the concierge about the tourist bus and got misguided that the bus only runs on the weekends. Would definitely not go back.
“Basic Accommodations at a great place”
The best thing going for this hotel is location. It's very close to the main shopping (Teramachi and Shijo Street) and nightlife hotspots (Pontocho) in Kyoto and right across from a subway and a bus station, making it easy to reach the rest of the city. Accommodations are very basic, small but comfortable room. There were stains on the carpet which doesn't bother us, but could bother others. The corridors have a dorm room like feel. There is free wired internet (no wireless). The bathroom is like a cabin inserted into the room, so you feel like you are in an airplane bathroom (you have to step up into the cabin). But, if you are going to be hiking/sightseeing all day, and need a comfortable place with hot shower and internet to check your email, this hotel serves fine. There is not much service. The spa is entirely separate, so you get no benefits. We didn't try the restaurant which serves buffet style meals, but it looked busy most of the time. There were too many choices around to get stuck with the hotel restaurant. If you are not a picky traveler, this place is worth it, it was really good value when we reserved it. If you tend to get stuck on small things, then find another place.
“Large rooms, wonderful location”
Large modern comfortable rooms (especially for Japan) in a fantastic neighborhood. Very close to both the Nishiki market and Ponto-cho. There's a subway stop half a block from the hotel entrance. Absolutely no complaints!
“All good at Kyoto Royal Hotel & Spa”
Good location (huge variety of eating options, bus/subway at the door, good early morning running along the river, etc), friendly English speaking staff, clean, spacious rooms - excellent value for money. We've stayed in many hotels across Japan over the years - Kyoto RH&S ranks very high in this price bracket. Probably the second or third time we've stayed here - will return again.
“great hotel would go again”
Everything was perfect. Great location. Beds a bit short for a tall person but I can tcomplain
“Great”
The Kyoto Royal Hotel and Spa is right in the centre of Kyoto and is surrounded by wonderful restaurants. Our room was clean and comfortable and the service at the hotel very courteous and helpful.
“The perfect location”
We spent 3 nights at the Kyoto Royal Hotel & Spa and were delighted. Room was large, comfortable, with all amenities. Location is absolutely perfect - 2 minutes to the subway, 10 minutes to Gion, less than 5 minutes to the nearest temple as well as the shopping galleries which are perfect to get out of the rain and shop for traditional Japanese products as well as modern gifts.
