“We got a suite!!”
Had a great week in Bansko. The room was amazing and bigger than most new build flats. Satellite TV. A kitchenette and seperate bedroom. The food in the restaurant was simple and well prepared, and the staff were very helpful. The resort has a very pretty old town where beer was about 60 pence for half a litre. There were queues for the lift in the morning but getting there at 8am meant you had 2 hours on the slopes by yourself, where the snow was excellent. This was half term week, so their busiest of the year. The evenings were soooooooooooo much better than France, food is much better and a quarter the price. Some places seem to have caught on though and the more expensive restaurants aren't necesarily the best. Particularly Pomodorro Roso where the service was lousy and food very average(most expensive meal of the week and worst. Try the Barbecue haidujk sword if you like (lots of) meat. There's a great place down on the left as you go to the old town. I still have a 20% off voucher after eating the "sword" A guy in sun glasses will ask if you want to see the menu.
“Suprisingly good, but .......”
It was our first trip to Bulgaria, and Eastern Europe too, and our expectations were not high. Bansko is indeed a bit of a building site still, but the apartments overlook the main lift car park which means a 2 minute walk to the gondola, ski hire, apres bars and supermarkets. The rooms are clean, modern and, with the exception of a wall panel missing in the bathroom, well maintained. Kitchenettes are well equipped and clean, meaning there is no need to venture out to find breakfast (which was dissapointing at the onsite restaurant) There is a cash point, shop and ski hire all on site. The outdoor pool / spa was closed on our visit (Mar 10) Overall, great location, good accomodation. Reccomended.
