“Excellent”
The hotel is simply a paradaise! But don't forget to rent a car. Otherwise, you will be "arrested" on it.
“Heaven on earth”
The hotel and staff were absolutely great, warm and helpful. A male receptionist even gave us a bottle of milk as we forgot to buy. As for the people we got lost on a few ocassion as we had a hired car and help was always on hand. One man even left work and we followed him to our hotel on the first day. I would go back to |Portugal and that hotel again
“Relaxing and enjoyable”
The Vila Gaivota is an excellent choice if you want to relax by a pool and enjoy the sun in peace. It is quiet and yet still lively. The other guests are mostly a mix of English, Portuguese and Germans so there is a cosmopolitan feel to the complex and it is not dominated by English, which we liked. The complex is not too big so the atmosphere is informal and friendly. The bar is comfortable and the restaurant offers a variety of Portuguese dishes with a children's menu. The apartments are clean and in good condition. We have been twice now and would go back.
“Beautiful surroundings, secluded location”
These apartments are the closest in the area to the stunning beach just 5 minutes walk away. My girlfriend and I stayed in the cheaper (non pool side) single bedroom the second week of May 2007. The twin beds were easily made into a double and the quality and size of the apartments overwhelmed us. The apartments are spacious, with individual rooms within them, well designed and laid out, a joy to come back to after a day at beach. Ferragudo is a gorgeous, peaceful little fishing village type place with sweet, friendly residents, no pumping nightlife but some really lovely restaurants to try out. Vila Gaivota is located a few minutes drive from the center of the village and 15 minutes from the touristy beaches so a car is needed unless you are after a self contained day at the beach/dinner at the apartment break, which is well doable; the beach at the end of the road is stunning (and empty!) and the apartments are extremely well equipped. The hotels restaurant is good quality and well priced and the receptionists were very helpful and friendly. The pool is big enough and the grounds are very attractive. I highly recommend these apartments. I found no fault with anything. Jon, 24
“nice views, great location, would recommend, bargain break!!”
hotel is in a lovely spot overlooking the sea.Our room was ok, but the bathrooms were a little dated, one of the toilet seat was very cracked and not very nice, but as we had three toilets it did not really matter. we had a two bedroom appartment over two floors, had three balconies and was very spacious. kitchen was ok, but was a very strong musty smell, may be because it had been empty for a while as we went in april, and the fridge, cooker and washing machine were rusting! some appartments were being upgraded when we were there, so should be re done by summer. overall had a good time here at a bargain price for 4 people with car for 5 nights over easter! amazing!! just look out for those bargains they are there.
“Lovely!”
The apartment we had was a little tired and, in places, could do with some renovation but it was huge, comfy and pretty well equipped nonetheless. And there is so much that makes up for a little bit of shabbiness inside. The complex of apartments is in itself really pretty and well maintained, we had great views over the bay from our terrace and the beach and restaurant just down the road are amazing. It's a great area with a wealth of wildlife, especially birds, and some stunning clifftop walks. Ferrugodo is charming and quiet and you can walk there in a brisk 30 minute march. We had some superb fish at a restaurant on the quay and really enjoyed a bar we found. Loved it and would recommend it.
“Nice surprise!”
We stayed in one of the appartments here and we were quite impressed. The appartments are set on a hillside overlooking the sea and the tall buildings of Portimao. The architecture is arabic influenced and well kept gardens intersect the whole complex. Our place had a huge balcony which was a great place to catch the sun. The decor was a bit dated and starting to get a bit tatty but overall a great place to stay. The staff we met were all very helpfull and friendly. There are a couple of great secluded beaches just a few minutes walk away and Ferragudo is a good base from which to explore the Algarve from. If you hire a car fro Faro, get a good directions. There are signs from Ferragudo but not very clear. We did have to drive round a bit to find the place.
“Spacious & quiet”
Location excellent if you want a quiet, relaxing holiday. Beautiful, large gardens, plentiful wildlife & good walks. Room large, with huge veranda/great views, but bathroom tired, kitchen needs equipment/updating. Mattress & chairs uncomfortable. On site restaurant & shop closed until April!
“Not 4 Star!”
Even though we had a pleasant stay we did not find this accomodation as a 4 star rating, a bit of work need to be done in the kitchen, bathroom, appliances are pretty old and there is not even a kettle! We had to complain a couple of times about the noise of the cleaners in the morning cleaning the apartment below. The staff at reception however were very friendly and accomodating. The sea view from the apartment was good.
“Enjoyed the stay but slightly disappointed.”
Not sure this is really 4-star accomodation. Cracked tiles in bathroom, severely cracked draining board on kitchen sink, broken pedal bin in kitchen. Minor problems that should have been easily rectified. Apart from that the accomodation was spacious and very bright and clean. We had a spacious balcony overlooking the swimming pool with sea glimpses. Also, quite near the restaurant, which was good and the waiters very friendly. Don't use the mini-market on site, prices high and items we bought (croissants and rolls) were very stale. The reception staff were not overly heplful with our request for an additional sunbed on our balcony (we only had one), this being flatly refused. We really enjoyed our stay here and there were some good aspects to the hotel but, as stated before, did not rate 4-stars! The apartments may be privately owned and one could differ quite considerably from another depending on the owners attitude.
