"Lovely room. Very spacious and clean. Really friendly staff. Free breakfast available every day between 6am - 10am. Good selection of food inc cereals, fruit, waffles, pastries and a hot selection of eggs, potatoes and sausage or bacon. Coffee and a selection of juices also available. The hotel has a small pool and gym. Good location - 1km walk to Hollywood Blvd and Santa Monica Blvd is literally outside. Good connection to metro trains and busses. I had no problem getting around from this base. Would definitely use this hotel again. Limited restaurant choices within close proximity unless you are happy with fast food. This isn’t the fault of the hotel though. "

"Great hotel. Only complaint is they add a mandatory gratuity to a “complementary” buffet style breakfast with no one attending the table and everything is self service. I don’t mind tipping, but when you have mandated tipping, you do not encourage good customer service, because they are guaranteed a gratuity and they do not have reason to do more than is required by their employer. I still believe gratuities (tips) are for services rendered, not for tips expected. That being said I did not have a negative experience other than the waiter asked if I had been there before and when I said yes, he just said “well then you know what to do” and walked away. Funny thing is when we checked in, the guy at the counter told us there was a 5 dollar charge for breakfast , then said next week they are not charging that fee because it upsets people staying there. I then I asked, then why are still charging the gratuity and he didn’t say. Normally I would have tipped more than $4.99, but since they didn’t nothing except pick up my plates after I left, I didn’t see a reason to have left anything. I understand the prices are going up everywhere but don’t advertise a Free Breakfast when you charge 4.99. It is not a free breakfast. The description at booking should state “fees apply.” Other than that small complaint, The hotel is nice, food was good and the view is great. "

From the beautiful & unique hotel to the amazing service to the endless activities to the free shuttle service to the great location to the delicious restaurant and everything in between, we thoroughly enjoyed every single moment at the garland!! Whether you're travelling for business or for pleasure, whether you're travelling solo or as a family or group or a couple, there's legitimately something for everyone! Can't recommend enough and so beyond happy I came across it!"

"The staff was 1st and foremost absolutely amazing. Very helpful and went above and beyond to meet all of our needs. The rooms were very clean. The bathtubs are large enough to get a full body soak! Very quiet and relaxing. They have a nice restaurant on site that serves breakfast lunch and dinner. Food is great and affordable. If I could rate 10 stars I would. I’ll definitely be back!"

"Beautiful retro hotel. Although it is rather old it is clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The location is perfect if you want to get the best of Santa Monica. I will definitely stay there again on my next trip."
