"Nice hotel Strategically placed"
Walking distance from most of the main sites, and nicely positioned between the Rialto Bridge and San Marco's square. Getting there from the train station - If you have heavy bags, I would consider a private taxi boat.

Hotel Savoia & Jolanda

Riva Degli Schiavoni 4187, Venice - Map

"Nice hotel in an excellent location"
Its excellent location, a few steps from St. Mark's Square and the main vaporetto station, makes this hotel an excellent choice. Breakfast satisfying despite the lack of fresh vegetables. Very friendly staff, very helpful and they all speak good english. The room was very small, on the edge of discomfort. But given the fact that we spent most of our time outside the hotel, it was bearable. If it is important for you to be close to the center, somewhat at the expense of hotel amenities, this is definitely the hotel for you

Carnival Palace Hotel - Venice Hotels

Carnival Palace Hotel

Fondamenta di Cannaregio, 929, Venice - Map

"Certainly worth a visit"
I stayed in Carniville Palace for 4 nights in January. The room itself ( superior suite) was fantastic and was of a very high standard. Excellent beds, very large bath and shower room and a separate area for storing your clothes and bags etc. The room itself had 2 balconys 1 with a hot tub which was nice even at that time of year. Breakfast was again of a high standard with something for everyone really. Downside to hotel was just very poor internet coverage and I was unable to stream anything online which was not a problem in other bars / restaurants in Venice. When I mentioned this to reception they were not in the slightest bit bothered.

"Location location location"
Great location, bus station only a 2 minute walk. I like the fact that this hotel is the opposite end of Venice to St Mark sq, so it forces you to walk the width of Venice via various routes provided by a map at the hotel.

"Amazing hotel with great hospitality!"
Me and my husband stayed in Hotel Abbazia for 3 nights. We were shown great hospitality from staff and were very touched by it! The hotel is located in very convenient place - it was hidden in a narrow street but not far from train/bus station, close enough to all tourist attractions, and at the same time close to residential area where you can enjoy "not touristy" restaurants. After long day walking around Venice we enjoyed chilling out the hotel spacious lobby drinking cocktails from the hotel bar. As the time of our staying was at the beginning of the carnival season in Venice the hotel's personnel were wearing periodic costumes which was pretty charming! We liked our stay a lot and would recommend the hotel to others tourists.

    Classic highlights

Even if you haven't visited Venice, you've probably already seen images of its classic highlights: gondolas on the Grand Canal, the gothic Doge's Palace, and the pigeons on St Marks Square. You can rest assured that the reality of these places is every bit as majestic as the postcard pictures make them out to be.

More than just a series of famous snapshots, however, Venice is a mesmerizing, mysterious city laced with hints of melancholy. Once a major maritime power, Venice continues to survive largely because of the tourist trade, with the number of actual residents dwindling year after year. Ever-increasing flooding wreaks havoc on architecture, while the summer's heat can make the city feel almost swamp-like. Decadent palaces stand next to decaying houses, glorious restoration next to gloomy ruin, making the city nothing short of a floating museum - but in many ways this is also its barrier to modernization.

    Mix of contrasts

This profound mix of contrasts makes Venice a fascinating destination. As it struggles to find a balance between preserving the rich cultural heritage on which it depends and carving out an identity as a still-living city in the 21st century, Venice remains one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

The reputations of the signature tourist 'musts' are well-deserved, but the discoveries you make by getting lost in Venice's winding streets and canals are equally rewarding. Exploring your extraordinary surroundings is sure to make you sigh in disbelief. One of Venice's most famous bridges, in fact - just one of over 400 bridges connecting Venice's islands - is called the Bridge of Sighs.

    Artists' inspiration

Even the light in Venice is different; the reflection off the water has provided inspiration for many artists. The Accademia Gallery holds several Venetian masterpieces, and you'll notice the play of light in many of its painting. The unusual light is far from being the city's only special quality. Visit during Carnevale and you'll see a glamour you thought no longer existed. Also well worth a visit is Venice Biennale, Europe's classiest international forum for contemporary art.

Cars aren't allowed in Venice, so you'll get to know the city by walking or riding vaporetti (public water buses - an alternative to the more expensive water taxis or gondolas, although it's worth splashing for a romantic evening out). Venice is notoriously crowded (and expensive), but people come for good reason. There is no other city like it in the world - its culture and canals, basilicas and bridges continue to leave visitors marveling. Despite its uncertain future, Venice hasn't lost its magic. Hide
