"We thoroughly appreciated this peaceful, private home away from home, which far exceeded our expectations. It was spacious, light-filled, had phenomenal ventilation, and was equipped with thoughtful amenities: refrigerator/freezer, hot plate, microwave oven, and coffee maker with all the fixings and snacks to boot. The kindness of the Hosts was so apparent in their lending to guests outstanding Hawaiiana reading material and maps, user-friendly cable TV, flashlight, ice chest, binoculars,...

Volcano Acres Ranch B&B
3.0 star property
9.6 out of 10, Exceptional, (182)
"If only we could have stayed longer! We had booking the glamping unit, but because of water issues Theresa switched us to the Bungalow, which was so cosy. She agreed alternative breakfast arrangements as we had to leave early on checkout. We only had time to meet the chickens and ducks at the doorstep, but we saw the donkey and goats sheltering from the rain! I would definitely recommend staying here if you're making a trip to Volcano NP. "

"Guy running the place has knowledge that can make your stay bounce from great to greatest. Yes he has some rules but his place for three days cost me less then one night at Prop 19 in Kona and was a lot better stay. But that side of the island is family more original Hawaiian they are Community oriented. You hear Mahalo and they mean it. The people care about you when you seem lost and they walk over and ask what is wrong. At Big Island you can gain an experience that you will not get on the...

Ma'ukele Lodge
3.5 star property
9.4 out of 10, Exceptional, (144)
"If you want an experience and not a hotel, this is a good place to consider. Don’t complain if you wanted a Marriott; it’s not the Marriott. The hostess and host are kind and genuine. The lodging is nestled in a neighborhood, but it feels almost like a jungle. The shower is outside and is reasonably private. Don’t mind the geckos lingering nearby as you enjoy fresh fruit for breakfast."

"Thanks to Erich and Suzy for making our short stay as cozy as possible and helping us figure out plans. Between plane delays and terribly rainy weather, our volcano visit was mostly a washout. But the rooms were very cute, the nice big bathroom was helpful to have with all 4 of us, and the breakfast was delish. Thanks again!"

"Beautiful spot, house is large, nicely furnished and decorated with a well stocked kitchen and other amenities. In a residential neighborhood, very friendly atmosphere and pleasant area to walk around. Pahoa is a quiet town, has a nice new grocery market and a few fun places to go out to eat or drink. "We split our vacation to stay half on each side, and stayed here first. Because we are staying on the Kona side for the second half, we landed in Kona, so it was quite a drive - THAT WE WERE TOTALLY EXPECTING! This is not a complaint, just a statement ;) We arrived in the dark, but were still able to see what a beautiful home this was! We were lulled to sleep by the sounds of the waves crashing on the rocks below. We woke refreshed to the most beautiful views! Our days out were nice because we...
