"Room was clean, roomy bathroom. Reception was good, very friendly and helpful. Breakfast area needs some improvements, but they did the best they could with the way it is laid out. Food was good."

"Disappointing for the cost. On the telephone prior to arrival, the staff were helpful but upon arrival, nothing was explained about the facilities and my room wasn’t ready in time. Attempting to checkout was a nightmare and took some time. Housekeeping staff were wonderful and room was clean. One lift was out of action which meant multiple stops on each use. Hairdryer in room did not work and when I mentioned this at the reception, the chap asked if I was using it properly?! Condescending. Pool area was untidy, with half eaten food left on the floor and loungers. Plus notes: Bathroom was magnificent. Bed was comfortable. Hotel was in a great central location."

"This Ibis Hotel is located in a very convenient area in the old town and the major Edinburgh sites were easy walks from the hotel. The staff was kind and helpful, breakfast was fresh, and my room was very clean. I wish the room had a refrigerator to store cold drinks. "

"We had a wonderful four night stay at the Cairns Hotel. Bala was amazing at check in. It is an older hotel with character, in an excellent walking location from Waverly Train Station and the local bus is a minute walk up the street, would definitely recommend staying at the Caitns Hotel when in Edinburgh. "You cannot charge anything to your room unless you have paid money up front for them to deduct from like a line of credit. The whole thing was ridiculous as they had all my credit card details and could easily charge my card. It was extremely inconvenient having to pay every time you ordered and we had the same issue at the Clayton hotel in Glasgow. We also stayed at the Caledonian hotel in Edinburgh and had no issues charging anything to our room. Other than that there was a lot of construction going on around the hotel so forget sleeping in and one of the 2 elevators wasn’t working. The staff however were great and very polite and helpful and the location was excellent."

"The room was not that clean, bald patch on the carpet, extractor fan in bathroom not sufficient as mirror steamed up after a shower. Also we were given a disabled access room instead of a standard double and not advised. Winter duvet was too warm.Woken by loud music. Disappointing stay."
