"Small hotel offering warm hospitality."
We stayed at Hotel de Monti for 6 nights during our first visit to Rome. It felt like we were staying in an apartment (hotel occupies the 3rd floor of a building in the Monti neighbourhood, no elevator) but we had a lovely breakfast served each morning (menu choices are typical local fare which you select the day before) and had our room tidied up and fresh towels provided daily. Mauro, our wonderful host, was very helpful to provide sightseeing tips which helped us to plan our itinerary, miss crowds and take shortcuts. He was also very helpful in accommodating our special requests!

"Friendly & accommodating staff."
Hotel has updated area and an older area. We were given a room in the older area so it appeared tired & outdated. Generally, the accommodation was ok however the updated hallways were must more appealing.

"Very Good Hotel - Quite Pleased"
I have only given this hotel a 4 rating and this is based on the staff and the room. Cons first: There was no restaurant within the hotel itself which means that all meals were off-site - there was a food place next door which I was assured you could have breakfast in but must mention that you were a guest of the hotel. The lift in the hotel was small - made for 4 people but only if they were sticks :-) Forget 4 people and luggage; 1 person and luggage just about and the lift stopped in-between floors so you still have a short flight of stairs to manage. I had a superior double room but found the bed a bit hard for my liking - obviously if you like hard beds, this is a Pro :-) No tea/coffee making facilities in the room - although there was a minibar (at cost). Pros: Hotel staff were great - happy to help, polite and well mannered. Hotel was also very clean and tidy. Colosseum is about 500m to the left of the hotel, Roman Forum just over the road and other parts of the Forum directly opposite the hotel! Head down to the Pantheon area (which was about 20 minute walk) and there are plenty of shops to look around. Overall, a very pleasing stay (was there for 3 nights). If the hotel had its own restaurant, it would have been a 5 Star rating. Situated in a tourist area so plenty of restaurants.

"Close to Termini - Walk everywhere"
So many small hotels to choose from - close to Termini and all the transport systems in Rome - could walk most places - yes it is up some stairs or the small lift - but I travelled lite and so not a problem. Bed was a bit uncomfortable, but ok for a short stay - reception staff were helpful and friendly

"Close to the Vatican, but internet was terrible"
The hotel is a good 10 minute walk to the metro station and only about 3-4 minutes to the Vatican. I stayed for 5 days. The room was clean, the sheets clean and the water hot. TV was all in Italian. My biggest problem was that internet was only available on the 5th floor solarium (outside patio) area. The hotel is in an old building and does not own all the rooms on each floor. There are apartments on some floors and even a business or two. So, the internet is only available on their 5th floor patio. It was pretty funny seeing people outside in 40 degree temperatures (I stayed in December) just to use the internet. The Castel Santo Angelo is a minute away though. The price was okay, but there were not many extras, like breakfast. There was soap, shampoo and towels, so that was fine as well. As long as it is understood that you do not have wifi available in your room, then go ahead and stay.
