When is the best time to go to Southside Highlands?

The best time to visit Southside Highlands is during the late spring (May to June) and early autumn (September to October) months, when the weather is pleasant and the crowds are smaller. Late spring offers comfortable temperatures, typically ranging from 15°C to 25°C, making it ideal for outdoor activities like hiking and exploring the scenic trails of the Highlands. The wildflowers are usually in full bloom, adding to the natural beauty. You'll find fewer visitors compared to the peak summer months, allowing for a more relaxed experience at popular attractions like the Highland Falls viewpoint. Early autumn also provides excellent weather, with temperatures similar to late spring, usually between 12°C and 22°C. The foliage begins to change, offering stunning landscapes of reds and golds, particularly along the routes leading to the Highland Summit.

The Inn at Truckee

8/10 Good

"Older place but clean and close to downtown. Beds weren't very comfortable but ok for one night"

Martis Valley Lodge, Tapestry Collection by Hilton

8/10 Good

"Stayed at this lodge with family for a fall foliage trip to the Truckee Donner Lake area. Hotel was conveniently located and breakfast options were ok but not varied or child friendly. Most aspects of our stay were fine. Check in took an unnecessarily long time because of a chatty guest ahead of us and the registration clerk giving a long explanation of the property’s history. The air conditioning unit was very loud and unless we had it on at night the room would be too hot and stuffy, even though it went down to the 20-30s at night. The shampoo was used up when we arrived and had not been replaced. We had to ask for a replacement. There was a rowdy party group the floor below us and we could hear them pounding the floor running around and they pulled the fire alarm. I would not choose this hotel in the future but it was affordable for a holiday weekend. The lower price may attract the wrong crowd."
