For a short and affordable stay the Clarendon was perfect. It’s proximity to the South Melbourne cafes, shopping and markets, and the city makes it ideal for anyone wanting to be out of the busy CBD. The tram to the city is across the road and takes about 10 minutes. It was mostly very quiet but there was neighborhood music one night - fortunately our ear plugs cancelled most of the noise out.
Room was great. Remodelled bathrooms and comfortable/spacious living room. Service desk wasn't always attended but staff was on call and replied/answered quickly. Close to city centre and great dining options within walking distance.
Short walk to South Melbourne market, 5 or 6 takeaway options within 5 minute walk (some dine in) and team stop just outside. Easy check in and room was clean, large, comfortable with decent bed and a Smart TV with your usual streaming services pre installed.
Great location in South Melbourne!
Responsive service though not on-site.
Comfy bed & clean linen.
However, they really should seek out other smaller single use amenities (shampoo, conditioner etc) or more permanent alternatives so they don't feel the need to reuse them or not replace them (mine were used). The towels were also not the best, however were sufficient. Carpets need a deep clean, and some areas need additional dusting, however I have a high standard in the regard.
For the price paid, it was a good stay.
The room was great, clean and spacious with a good shower. Air conditioning was not very effective. Reception is only manned for short periods and there is a telephone number to contact. Unfortunately, not having an Australian phone this was not possible. They did not have WhatsApp to contact them on WiFi. Rooms are only services on request and so we had to physically see someone to ask for this. I feel that rooms should be refreshed daily unless clients request this not to happen. I do not expect sheets and towels to be changed daily but I also do not book a hotel to make my own bed and clean the bathroom. I do that everyday ant home. Also, there was nothing to say that on Monday and Tuesday the restaurant is closed. This was a slight problem for us as that is when we stayed. There was also not a lot close by that was open but we managed. Overall, I would stay here again but not on a Monday or Tuesday.
Staff were super friendly, hotel room was immaculate and very spacious. Restaurant was nice. Roof top sky bar was excellent. Perfect place to host an event.
The building has a bar on the ground floor and the rooftop, not unexpected. However I am told the hotel business is separate to the bars. Result- kept awake due to loud music WHICH CONTINUED AFTER THE BARS CLOSED.
Basically the bar staff couldn't be bothered turning off the sound system when they closed for the night, so the hotel customers were kept awake all night by doof doof.
I didn’t like arriving at 3:30pm only to find an unclean room!
Even after the room was made up, it didn’t smell clean. 😔
I did enjoy the sky bar with it’s views & Jhai’s amazing cocktail creations.🍹
Great location and a lovely room. There was a DJ in the roof bar (Friday night) and my walls were literally vibrating. No wifi password provided, no contact info in room or at the reception desk, general feeling of the hotel component being the lowest priority of the 3 businesses in the building.
Clean, tidy and beautiful new renovations to the suite we were staying in.

Disliked: Cleanliness
When we arrived at the hotel there were stains down the front of the toilet bowl (looked like someone had vomited and it hadn't been cleaned) which raised concerns that the rest of the room hadn't been properly clean especially during COVID time, the toiletries in the shower looked like they had been used and refilled (the tubes were squished and wrinkled) which again, during COVID, should be single use. Blinds in the room were down and were not able to be opened which made it dark and meant we couldn't enjoy the "city view" which was just overlooking the shops below, couldn't actually see the city. Staff at check in seem unprepared and unprofessional with our details only written down on scraps of paper. However, they did clean the toilet once we raised it with them. Hotel was in a good location for our purposes.
