The historic bayside suburb of Brighton is famous for its Victorian-era beach huts, which line the water’s edge with a rainbow of colour. Named after the waterfront city in England, Brighton has been a seaside getaway for Melburnians since its inception in the mid-1800s. Swim at the sheltered beach or stroll along the sand and take photographs of the pretty beach boxes alongside the distant city skyline. Admire the ornate historic architecture and modern mansions of this traditionally well-heeled suburb.

Brighton’s main commercial area contains a large shopping centre and several high-end boutiques. Visit the cafés and restaurants in North Brighton or grab ingredients for a picnic from the gourmet food outlets. Visit the Brighton Town Hall Precinct to see the magnificent Victorian-era town hall and surrounding gardens. Make your way to the Esplanade to see Brighton’s historic hub and find a string of historic hotels along the waterfront. The best-known beach strip in Brighton is known as Dendy Street Beach. This is where Brighton’s iconic bathing boxes line the waterfront.
