Richmond

Home to a diverse range of cultures, this inner-city suburb has fantastic shopping, courtyard cafés, delicious Vietnamese food and a thriving live music scene.

Melbourne’s 19th-century heritage, rich multiculturalism and stylish urban design come together in Richmond, a historic suburb to the southeast of the CBD. Grab a bargain and uncover innovative new designers along Richmond’s shopping strips, eat delicious Vietnamese food or experience Melbourne’s live music scene at a classic pub.

Stroll down one of Richmond’s arterial streets and take in an eclectic mix of architecture, from heritage Victorian terrace houses to art deco buildings and trendy converted warehouses. The suburb’s main commercial strips are along Bridge Road, Swan Street, Church Street and Victoria Street. Visit a string of intriguing art galleries on Albert Street.

Hit Bridge Road to take advantage of the wide range of factory outlet stores for well-known clothing labels, as well as up-and-coming designer boutiques. Further wholesale outlets can be found on Swan Street. When you are ready to take a break, relax in the courtyard of one of Swan Street’s many cafés and enjoy a well-deserved coffee and an authentic Greek pastry or cake.

Don’t miss sampling sizzling flavours and warming broths in North Richmond’s Little Saigon on Victoria Street. Enjoy a traditional phở (noodle soup), pork ribs, rice dishes and delicately spiced seafood in this Vietnamese neighbourhood.

Australian Football League matches and international cricket tests are regularly played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, an iconic stadium in Yarra Park on Richmond’s eastern border. Catch a game with Richmond’s own team, the Richmond Tigers. Take in some pre-footy excitement and sample some locally brewed beers at one of Richmond’s many renovated taverns before heading to the MCG.

As night falls, head to one of the pubs or bars on Swan Street and enjoy an evening listening to the emerging Melbourne musicians or old favourites onstage.

Richmond is easily accessible from the city via tram or train. Richmond Station is a major train station served by several train lines. Parking is readily available in parking lots and leafy side streets.
