Clean, conveniently located ryokan in a modern building across the street from Kyoto station whose interior nonetheless feels like an old-style building due to the way the rooms are constructed with traditional materials. The breakfast was great, the public baths were nice, and while it doesn't quite have the character of a genuine historical ryokan, it has a lot more than any other modern-built ones I've seen, as well all the advantages of a modern building.
I would recommend Matsumoto Ryokan to anyone wanting a traditional-style stay with modern convenience in a transit-connected location.
