"A quiet hotel with a nice onsen on the balcony overlooking the river. Simple alkaline waters, not too hot, elaborate dinners and breakfast with nice sea and river fish dishes, good wifi. Comfortable rooms in a modern building. "
"Onsen outside on the river was fantastic and perfect after a day walking. Breakfast was limited and dining options with walking distance very limited. Room was large and traditional Japanese style was extremely comfortable to sleep. "
"Tried to check out and could not as they did not have staff to take payment. Had to leave to make it to bus in order to catch my train and flight. Has to go to extraordinary lengths to pay them after. Also extremely overpriced for this hotel, would never come back."

"Excellent onsen hotel right at the end of the first day of the Kohechi Kumano Kodo pilgrimage trail. I came for the onsen and mountain seclusion, but they had such good maps of the Kohechi at the front desk that I decided to walk back to Koyasan the day I checked out. It’s about 20km through the mountains from Nosegawa Onsen to Koyasan, walking on a mix of well-kept trails and paved roads; overall, a moderately difficult hike with very good signage.
I highly recommend Kohechi hikers to stay at this hotel."
"This was one of THE best experiences I have ever had in all of my travels, including the two weeks in Japan. I struggled to decide which temple lodging to choose in Koyasan, and I am so glad I went with Joki-in. The check-in experience was wonderful, welcoming and helpful staff. They tour you through the entire property and help you adjust to temple life. Our room was bigger than every hotel we stayed in in Japan and a private bathroom (most the other temples do not have this) - sold!!! The garden, and bath, were so relaxing to enjoy. I actually had the bath to myself! The location is superb and the curfew is 10pm, which is great since most temples in Koyasan are 9pm! I found the food to be delicious and unique and sleeping on the floor extremely comfortable! I loved everything about this, just wish we could have done 2 nights here (but the price didn't allow for that!) If you aren't sure which temple to choose, choose this one!"
"An exceptional and unforgettable experience. We learned meditation techniques and took part in the goma ritual, which was truly incredible. The shukubo is very clean and well maintained. There’s no AC or private restroom since the original structure is preserved, but that adds to the authenticity of the traditional Japanese stay. Highly recommended!"
"We were halfway through our two week trip when we stayed. We were exhausted and even missed a couple of meals catching up on sleep. I could not have been in a better place to recover. The staff were great and the food is wonderful. The view is one of a kind. "
"Tucked away above the bar/cafe, this onsen was absolutely wonderful. The rooms were very traditional in the Japanese style, and we had access to the entire area as we were the only guests staying on that night. The staff were completely lovely and helpful. The showers and toilets were well kept and clean, and the beds were very comfortable. The location is perfect to walk around and explore Koyasan. Definitely worth a visit!"
"Friendly staff, incredible town, perfect hostel to explore area. Information about local busses posted on walls was very helpful. I booked an extra night here because I loved it so much!"
