• Most of us have heard about deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by long periods of sitting. To lower your risk on board, drink lots of water, consider wearing compression socks or tights and move your lower limbs often.

The trick is to be well prepared before you get to the security gate. That way, you'll be hopping onto that plane to Mountain View in next to no time. Follow these tips and get your trip off to a terrific start:

• Security personnel first need to see that you have a valid passport and boarding pass before you can proceed any further. Have them ready for inspection.
