"Really lovely cottage in the middle of Ambleside. Parking is off-site about 5 minutes away from the property up a very steep hill which wasn’t made explicitly clear so bare that in mind. There is nowhere to quickly park your car to unload bags or collect the resident’s parking permit so you have to pay for parking first. The showers were nice but honestly quite dirty with lots of black marks (possibly mould) on the shower head and the silicone which put us off using one of them. Besides that...

"Great location and great, safe private parking spot. Cottage is clean, spacious and cosy. Cottage is a little old fashioned, and needs a bit of TLC but the basics are all there and some nice touches- milk in fridge, bread, butter, eggs, tea coffee etc supplied. Would stay again as reasonably priced for what it is."

"Beautiful property in a perfect location for access to all the shops, restaurants and for wonderful walks. We had everything we needed for our 3 day stay at Netherbeck. It was clean, modern and very spacious. The promised parking permit was left in the house for us on arrival, and although there was a van parked directly outside, we did manage to park behind it once orher cars had left (though this wasn't before we had to park elsewhere until a space became available). We tried to call Sykes for...

"Overall great place to stay-clean, comfortable and great location. One complaint-nothing was stocked like other homes/apartments we have stayed. We had to buy garbage bags, soap, salt and pepper, even toilet paper, etc. morning was stocked. Amazing amount of dishes/cookware in the kitchen, but that was it. I wish we would have known, we could have packed some of this from home. Other than that, good stay!"

"It was a great location. We did find the car park a little bit tight and tricky to get into (as the road was fairly busy when we arrived). The cottage was great and had all we were after and the downstairs bathroom was great for my elderly Mum. The two single beds mattresses were a bit past their best so the only thing I’d suggest to improve the property would be an update of those. Otherwise it was a great place to stay right on the river."

"The staff were fab, couldn’t do enough for you. We stayed for 2 nights and did a few walks round the area and it’s in a great area. The room was lovely and spacious. We also took our dog and the amount of space and areas they were allowed was great. The breakfasts were really nice and again, the staff were really great. My only real gripe was a 10:30am check out but that’s being really picky. We are already planning our next one"

When is the best time to go to Ambleside?
The best time to visit Ambleside is generally during the late spring (May to early June) and early autumn (September to October) when the weather is pleasant and the crowds are thinner.During late spring, the Lake District bursts into life with blooming wildflowers, and the days are longer and often sunnier, making it ideal for outdoor activities like hiking and boat trips on Windermere. The temperatures are comfortable for exploring the fells and the village itself. You'll find fewer visitors than in the peak summer months, allowing for a more relaxed experience at popular spots like Stock Ghyll Force waterfall and the Armitt Museum.Early autumn also offers beautiful scenery with the changing colours of the leaves across the landscapes surrounding Ambleside. The weather can still be mild, and there's a crispness in the air that's great for walking. Many of the summer crowds have dispersed, meaning you can enjoy the local shops, cafes, and pubs without feeling rushed. This period is particularly good for couples looking for a romantic getaway with scenic drives and cosy evenings. While summer (July and August) is popular due to school holidays, it's also the busiest time, leading to more crowded trails and higher prices for accommodation.
