Spain’s Costa Blanca is famous for its beaches, and this particular area has a variety of settings. Choose a sunny beach that matches your mood and personality.
In and around the Spanish city of Alicante are scores of beaches, with those in Cabo de las Huertas in Vista Hermosa de la Cruz district offering a heavy concentration. Pick from expansive beaches to snug sandy coves that attract swimmers and sunbathers, as well as being a magnet for snorkelers and divers.
The beaches are popular among families and some can be found flying the rainbow flag or displaying “playa naturista” signs designating nude zones. Walk along the horn of land known as Cabo de las Huertas to admire the attractive coastline. Sandy crescents found in this area are often ringed with interesting rock formations that may overhang the beach below. Some shorelines are rocky but that doesn’t stop people from lying out in the sun on a towel.
These cala (cove) beaches have a peacefulness that is opposite to more vibrant ones not surprisingly the smaller beaches have the most relaxed feeling. Decide which one is right for you by walking through the area and encountering three prominent coves.
The closest to Alicante is Cala Cantalar, which is crossed with trails and paths. Be aware some areas are protected for their sensitive native flora. La Cala de la Palmera is found beside a residential area and is a combination of sand and rock. The cove is a favourite among snorkelers and scuba divers. La Cala de los Judíos has a white sand beach.
Travel by bus from Alicante to Vista Hermosa de la Cruz and follow the paths of Cabo de las Huertas. The 2.7-mile (4.4-kilometre) walk is generally easy but has some steep sections. Bus stops are found near the path system at various intervals.
