"We stayed here 1 night for easy access to Nintendo Museum. Check in is 4pm and our reservation was 4.30, so we were worried it'd be a bit tight. We let the host know and the team were great at getting us checked in quickly and smoothly and set up for our museum trip. Honestly we're a bit sad we only stayed 1 night! It feels like staying in someone's house and the local neighborhood is quiet but still has restaurants and shops nearby. Walking along the canal in the morning we had a lovely chat...

"Our 1st room was great until we stepped on wet carpet that smelled like urine (huge area). Assuming pet (I hope). They wanted to dry it and have me star in that room! NO! Finally got another room. They give 3 coffees in room. After we finished I wanted more, I was told there was a charge. NOPE, I go get some elsewhere and ask for housekeeping to restock for next day. 2 ppl later get back to the room - no coffee refills or amenities- which they charge daily for. Took 3 ppl to get that finally. We go down to one of the restaurants to eat, and hostess shakes her finger at me and told us we could not eat there. No reason, just us!! As Americans we did get turned away numerous times, but the hotel I paid to stay in, especially 1 with a bar and restaurants. We checked out early. - and they will only reimburse the amenities we didn’t use!!!! Hard NO and warning to other travelers"

"I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Hotel New Otani Osaka. What impressed me most was the staff. Every interaction—from the front desk to the luggage team, bellhops, and attendants outside the hotel—was friendly, professional, and highly attentive. I’ve stayed at many hotels around the world, and this was one of the best hospitality teams I’ve experienced. The location is excellent. Situated near Osaka Castle in a business district, the hotel is surrounded by cafés and convenience stores, while Osaka-jōkōen Station is right next door for easy access to the rest of the city. Another highlight was Patisserie Satsuki in the lobby. The croissants and cream puffs were phenomenal and among the best I’ve ever had. While I didn’t personally order room service, my friends—both serious food lovers—raved about the quality of the food and said it was excellent. The only downside is that parts of the hotel feel a bit dated. My first room had limited convenient outlets for charging devices, and I ended up unplugging a lamp to charge my phone. However, the second room I stayed in was more updated, suggesting the hotel is actively renovating portions of the property. Despite the dated feel in some areas, I would gladly stay here again. The outstanding staff, excellent food, and convenient location far outweigh any shortcomings, making Hotel New Otani Osaka an easy recommendation."

"We had a lovely stay at the Kyoto Brighton Hotel. Located north of the main city center, it offers a wonderful, quieter escape, though you should expect to take a taxi to get to the main train station and most major sightseeing hubs. For us, the location's unique perks far outweighed the distance: Historic Walkability: Nijo Castle (Kyoto Castle) is well within walking distance and made for a fantastic, highly enjoyable excursion. Local Neighborhood Vibe: We absolutely loved walking around the immediate neighborhood. It feels authentic and local, yet remains incredibly convenient. Within a short walk, we found a great grocery store, several 7-Eleven locations, and a very handy coin-operated laundry. The Best Part: The hotel is an easy, beautiful walk to the expansive Kyoto Imperial Palace park grounds. One minor downside to note: Be careful with your physical room keys! The hotel will charge you a fee if you lose them or if you want to keep one as a souvenir. Overall, if you don't mind relying on taxis to venture further out, the Brighton offers a peaceful, authentic, and highly comfortable base for exploring Kyoto."
