Royal National Hotel

8/10 Good

"I stayed at The Royal National Hotel for one night on Wednesday 7 October. For the price I paid (£120 for the room, although breakfast was an additional £30 (what?!), bringing the total to £150), I can’t really complain. The room was a double overlooking the forecourt. Surprisingly, noise was minimal, although I can imagine it gets considerably noisier at weekends. The en-suite was perfectly adequate, too. My only gripes were the rather weak shower pressure and the fact that the water never quite reached a temperature I would have liked. What really let the stay down, however, was the breakfast offering. The whole operation could best be described as school dinners. Guests have to queue to be seated, with staff chaperoning people around the breakfast room. In all honesty, I’ve never experienced anything quite like it in a hotel. The room itself was noisy, and there was yet another queue for the breakfast buffet. I found the whole experience rather off-putting, so I decided not to bother with breakfast and instead stave off the hunger until lunchtime. Overall, I’d describe my stay as very Travelodge-esque. For the price, you can’t complain too much, but I would certainly have preferred the more relaxed ambience of a Premier Inn! Just don’t pay the extra THRITY QUID for breakfast and instead spend that money in a more relaxing cafe nearby."

St. James' Court, A Taj Hotel, London

10/10 Excellent

"All the staff was very friendly and helpful throughout our entire stay. The room was very nice and well appointed. We would definitely stay here again. I would say the only downside was the lack of closet space for hanging clothes and lacked any storage space in the bathroom. We had to get inventive."

Zedwell Piccadilly Circus

8/10 Good

"Great shower! Beauty rooms were a bust. Overall, noisier--maybe they were herding elephants above us? But also some rumbles were surely the subway beneath-- than we had hoped, and dimmer--too dimly lit-- in common spaces. The room was sufficient, except only bring your closest confidants, the bathroom has ZERO privacy! The beds were comfortable. Price was right for us, if you don't mind the chaos of Picadilly Circus, you can spend your savings on £5 cans of Coke..."

When is the best time to go to South Ruislip?

The best time to visit South Ruislip is during the late spring (May to June) and early autumn (September to October) when the weather is generally pleasant, and the crowds are thinner.

During late spring, you'll find milder temperatures, superb for exploring the local parks and outdoor attractions without the intense heat of summer. The days are long, allowing for extended sightseeing, and the gardens are in full bloom, making for a picturesque backdrop.

Early autumn also offers comfortable weather conditions with fewer tourists than the peak summer months. The changing colours of the leaves add a lovely touch to the landscape, and it's a great time for walks in the nearby Ruislip Woods National Nature Reserve. You might also find better value on accommodation and flights during these shoulder seasons.

For those looking to experience local events and a livelier atmosphere, the summer months (July and August) are popular. While it can be busier, there are often community events and festivals taking place.
