"Staff very friendly and helpful. Food in restaurant was really good. Room too warm for us personally even with window open. Bathroom fixtures (bath/shower fittings) could do with being updated/modernised. Overall pleasant stay. "

"Nice spacious and very clean room. Well facilitated with a tea tray and bottles of water. Room was immensely hot but thankfully able to open all the windows. Liked fresh cooked breakfast (as opposed to usual buffets) however I would love to see a better drinkable coffee being served and a little gripe - after requesting hard poached egg with no ‘snot’ my egg was totally snotty when I cut it and ran into my breakfast so didn’t eat much. But all in all a very pleasant stay and reasonable value for money and would return. "

"We spent 2 nights here to 'get away from it all' at New Year. Total peace, surrounded by nature. Well equipped, especially for its size! It was nice and warm when we arrived and the oil radiator was quite efficient. We loved it here."

"Winnie Cottage is absolutely beautiful. Every aspect of the cottage is well thought out & the facilities are excellent. Especially the hot tub, It’s huge & the sauna aswell as all the other facilities provided means u don’t need to leave as there is something for everyone. The games room is a great addition for teenagers aswell as all the games, toys etc for smaller children. On arrival we were welcomed with a fantastic hamper which was a lovely surprise. The hosts are very welcoming & nothing is too much trouble, the communication is excellent. I can’t recommend this place enough. It truly is a beautiful hidden gem "

The views were beautiful and we were lucky to have dry days to explore Gibside and the Derwent valley. Lovely peaceful location, amenities close at hand. Thoughtful supply of books to read and general information. Very cosy and a tonic for the soul as so restful. "
