We really enjoyed our stay in New Plymouth and the State hotel. Staff was super friendly. They offered an EV charging station but only had one so we weren’t able to use it the second night. The rooms was very clean and comfortable, but small. The area is very nice with lots of dining and things to do. Downside was there was no lift in the hotel and it was quite noisy at night with loud diesel truck driving around and drunk people singing in the middle if the night. If not for these things would have rated it a 5.

Very comfortable and nice boutique hotel! Conveniently located in town, close to everything you would need. The bed was amazing! And they have FREE guest laundry. Was everything I wanted and more!

If you want a unique, boutique hotel experience look no further. What a gem. You know that Luke and Co. have really thought about the vibe of the place. Really well done. Quirky with style. NOTE: no elevator. Not a criticism just a reality for some Travellers to consider.

The room was very clean and comfortable with a good bed, clean modern bathroom with plenty of linen. The room I stayed in was a perfect size for 1 person. Lynne and her staff do a fantastic job, check in was easy to do online and Lynne provided a lovely personal service

The decor is excellent and quirky. Much more interesting that most hotels. It was very noisy at night.

Hi Karen, thank you for your review! As we are located in the city center there can be be street noise of a weekend evening. We have renovated throughout the hotel, including upgrading windows, to help prevent outside noise disturbing our guests.

Nicely presented with art. Easy check in and out. Good shower. Good location for town. Quiet. Main criticism is that room had strong smell of tobacco which required me to keep the windows open. Because the windows were open I couldn’t sleep due to cold and noise from air conditioning units. Smell was coming from the closet, so I couldn’t use that to avoid my clothes getting the smell.

the room was fantastic. It was so clean, felt like they had just redone the whole room. Staff/owner was super friendly and welcoming. Only thing would be the mattrasses were not comfortable. But other than that, this hotel was amazing and well located.

I just had a three night stay at The State Hotel. I had pretty high expectations given the photos and prior guest reviews and I was not disappointed! The hotel has a cool vibe with really interesting/hip art and decor. Everything was new, clean and fresh. Check in was a breeze and I never had an issue finding a (free) parking spot in the hotel parking. The bed was incredibly comfortable, the pillows were fluffy and the bedding was crisp and white. The provided tea/coffee/milk pods in the room was much appreciated. My room was always serviced promptly and the staff I encountered were very polite and welcoming. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending the State Hotel and if I came back to New Plymouth, I'd definitely stay here again. Oh, and Joe's Garage (the restaurant attached to the hotel) is excellent. I think I ate there 6 times during my stay lol.

We were somewhat surprised by the size of our room, considering what we paid per night to stay. Bathroom is very small and ackward to get around in. Thought there would be more space around the bed. Loved the interesting art work and the quaint hotel lounge (echo of another era). The Manager was very helpful and engaging but don't think this represents good value for money.

Our room was a little on small side. Once we had our case and other bags in there was no room. I think our room…room 1 … was more for a corporate traveller. We were a couple doing a two week road trip so lots of stuff. The lounge was nice. Good location to walk round town and cafes, restaurants. There were silly little things that didn’t work such as two of us. Two towels, one face cloth, one handprint towel. No milk. Coffee plunger not returned. These things were rectified when we asked. Housekeeping check list?

This is a fabulous establishment with very tastefully decorated rooms and hotel surrounds. The Guest Room is a perfect place to unwind after a days activities or a night out. Service throughout was exceptional throughout our visit. The owners"fully get" what Customer Service is about and offered useful advice on dining out, places to visit etc. A great place to stay in New Plymouth.

Hotel was comfortable and well appointed. Only issue was no where to hang towels to dry so if staying more than one night would have damp towels. Also parking is not attached to actual hotel - some distance to walk to it down back alley.
