Even though there was reasonable number of guests staying we never felt like there were many people around. Only at breakfast was it noticable how many were actually staying. Over all quiet and peaceful and easy walking distance to Healsville centre

Amazing accommodation set in the valley of the black spur. Very spacious rooms with everything we needed added bonus having a beautiful restaurant for dinner and breakfast just downstairs.

My room was so beautiful and clean. The bed very comfortable and clean. There was extra blankets in the wardrobe. They even thought of indoor comfortable slippers. The bathroom was so beautiful and clean. I loved the private little outdoor sitting area with a beautiful view of the vineyard and horses while having coffee or tea. It was very quiet. I loved seeing the bunnies hopping outside at night. There is a cellar door and a restaurant 5 just down the road, you just have to walk there. I...

Very warm and homely decor with everything provided that you could want. The layout was really lovely with the 2 bedrooms in the garden apartment at opposite ends to give maximum privacy. I made a stuff up with the booking dates and management was really understanding and accommodating and fixed it all up. The room even had an unexpected breakfast hamper which was lovely and best of all real coffee with a plunger.

We just stayed a single night at Chateau Yering while attending a local event. It was a very comfortable stay, room was large, staff very professional and clean and breakfast of high quality. Just a small negative in the shower, there is a small soap holder affixed to the wall which is great for the small bar of soap provided. Only problem is there is then nowhere to put your shampoo and conditioner except the floor. Us oldies can find bending over in the shower a bit of an problem. An...

We were very happy to return to the Healesville Hotel and it is a great base from which to explore the Yarra Valley. Our room was warm, clean and comfortable - the plunger coffee and TeaToo teas were very welcome. The open fires downstairs were much appreciated as the sun set and the temperature dropped, and we loved our delicious local trout, which was the night's special, and the fine Shiraz from a nearby vineyard. The cabin was in very good clean condition and the grounds were perfect for a young family offering three playgrounds, a creek and a damn/lake. We were unable to get into our cabin until 3:30pm as it was the last to be cleaned and reception staff were a bit blaze about this however the manager did agree to an 11am checkout so I felt happier about it. Only a shame that I had to ask for it; perhaps reception staff need more training on standard customer service. The recreation room was missing...

Perfect for couples wanting to get away. Perfect location and nice set up inside. Would have been better if we had more firewood but overall it was an excellent experience.

Which area of Murrindindi is best to stay in for cheap hotels?
For budget-conscious solo travellers visiting Murrindindi, focusing on towns like Alexandra, Yea, and Marysville will generally offer the most affordable accommodation options. These towns serve as excellent bases for exploring the region without breaking the bank, providing access to major roads and local attractions.
Alexandra, for instance, often features a selection of motels and guesthouses that are more competitively priced than those in some of the smaller, more niche tourist spots. Solo travellers will find it easy to navigate and discover local cafes and shops, often with friendly proprietors.
Yea also presents good value, with a range of budget-friendly stays including caravan parks with cabins and older motels. It's a pleasant town with a relaxed atmosphere, and its location along the Goulburn Valley Highway makes it convenient for day trips further afield.
Marysville, while a popular tourist destination, still offers some reasonably priced accommodation, particularly outside of peak holiday periods. Solo travellers can find guesthouses and smaller inns that provide a comfortable stay without the premium price tag. The town is surrounded by stunning natural beauty, offering plenty of free activities like bushwalking and enjoying scenic lookouts.
When is the most affordable time to visit Murrindindi?
The most affordable time to visit Murrindindi is generally during the shoulder seasons, specifically late autumn (April to May) and early spring (September to October), outside of school holidays and major public holiday weekends. During these periods, you'll find lower prices on accommodation and fewer crowds, allowing for a more relaxed and budget-friendly experience.
For solo travellers, these months offer pleasant weather for exploring the region's natural beauty without the peak season rush. You can enjoy the Murrindindi Scenic Reserve, with its stunning waterfalls and walking tracks, or visit the charming towns like Yea and Alexandra at a more leisurely pace. Many local cafes and small businesses in these towns offer good value meals, and the quieter atmosphere means you can often find better deals on local produce.
Families might also appreciate the shoulder seasons, as the milder weather is ideal for outdoor activities like cycling the Great Victorian Rail Trail or picnicking by the Goulburn River without the intense heat of summer or the chill of winter. Accommodation providers, including caravan parks and holiday rentals, are more likely to offer competitive rates, making a family trip more economical.
Is Murrindindi a budget-friendly destination?
While Murrindindi is generally considered more of an accessible regional destination for those with their own transport, travellers can absolutely experience its natural beauty on a budget with some smart planning.
For accommodation, families and couples can look for caravan parks or camping grounds within the Murrindindi Shire, such as those near the Eildon or Lake Mountain areas. These often provide a cost-effective base for exploring. Alternatively, consider holiday rentals in smaller towns like Yea or Alexandra, which can be more affordable than larger tourist hubs, especially if booked outside peak school holidays.
Much of Murrindindi's appeal lies in its stunning natural attractions, many of which are free to enjoy. Families can spend days exploring the Cathedral Range State Park, enjoying bushwalks and picnics. Couples will appreciate the scenic drives, such as the Black Spur, and the opportunity to visit waterfalls like Steavenson Falls near Marysville, which often have no entry fees. Fishing is also a popular and inexpensive pastime in the region's rivers and lakes, provided you have the necessary permits.
To save on food, plan ahead and bring your own supplies for picnics and self-catering, as dining out in regional areas can add up. Local markets in towns like Yea or Alexandra offer fresh produce and a chance to experience the local flavour without breaking the bank.
What free activities should we do in Murrindindi?
Murrindindi offers a wealth of free activities, great for budget-conscious travellers looking to immerse themselves in nature and local culture.
Families will particularly enjoy exploring the region's diverse natural landscapes. Pack a picnic and spend a day at the picturesque Maroondah Reservoir Park, where children can play in the open spaces and adults can enjoy the walking tracks and scenic views of the dam. Alternatively, head to the Cathedral Range State Park for a variety of walking trails suitable for different fitness levels, from gentle riverside strolls to more challenging climbs, all offering stunning views of the distinctive rock formations.
For those interested in local history and charming small towns, a wander through the main streets of towns like Yea or Alexandra offers a delightful free experience. You can admire historic architecture, browse local artisan shops (even if you're just window shopping.), and soak in the relaxed country atmosphere. Many towns also feature free public playgrounds for younger family members.
Another fantastic free option is to simply drive through the scenic Black Spur, a beautiful stretch of road winding through towering mountain ash forests.
