"room fine bathroom a bit dated as is the rest of the hotel. overall good location right on lake all rooms have view of lake pool is free for resident but very over clorinated which gave us all bad rashes. so only used once which was a sham as reason we stayed there. station close and hotel has shuttle bus to station 3 times an hour which was good over all hotel ok probably not to my taste but very popular with locals we were only english there and a good place to stay away from hustle and bustle of kyoto but easy access as only two stops on train. stayed there 20 years ago and it hadn’t changed since then"

"We only stayed one night, but if we ever go back to Japan we will try to book for longer. It is a bit out of the way and if you miss the last shuttle the walk back is about 20 minutes. But the traditional room with the bath on the balcony was amazing. And the buffet breakfast was fun. One night just wasn't enough time to truly enjoy the pause in our trip."

"I chose this hotel for the ryokan experience, and I was not disappointed. The room was spacious, while the bathroom was small but adequate. They offered a traditional Japanese breakfast, which I enjoyed, although my partner was not used to this type of breakfast. The hotel is located in a local neighborhood and is accessible by city bus and local train. However, traveling with luggage on local trains and buses can be difficult. I recommend using a luggage transfer service to send your bags from one hotel to the next, and taking a taxi from the hotel to the train station. This made traveling much easier and more convenient."

"Absolutely adored my stay here only wish it was longer. Nicely remote because I find the tourists in Kyoto quite overwhelming and the sauna was lovely. Breakfast was also amazing and they accommodated my allergies without stress."

"Toyoko Hotels are usually great. They are clean, convenient, and affordable, and they tend to have lots of useful amenities or people who might have forgotten to bring something like a toothbrush or razor. This particular hotel has a really convenient location that's a short walk from several train stations and from a couple of very charming and pleasant shopping arcades. Miidera (三井寺) and Lake Biwa (琵琶湖) are also manageable walks. Otsu is a lovely and underrated city, and this hotel is in a really nice part of the city."
