Portola Hotel & Spa at Monterey Bay

"We typically stay on Cannery Row at the InterContinental so this was our first at the Portola. PERFECT location for my husband and I and a gorgeous beachy room. He walked to the pier for a fishing day, and I was able to safely walk with others on a pedestrian trail on the boardwalk each morning. Alvarado Street has so many fun shops and restaurants for nighttime. My only negative was one of the mornings I went downstairs to the restaurant by myself. I was seated, then ignored for 20 minutes. Waitstaff made eye contact, but never came to my table. I ended up going to Starbucks. Other than that ideal stay."

"Great value hotel, with modern mini-split. Nice pool and large hot tub. They offer a restaurant and bar on site, with large fire pit. Convenient location and easy parking near rooms. We got a room on first floor, but some are at the end of steep stairs. No smart TV so bring your fire stick."

"Lovely room with a view of the bay. We enjoyed listening to the sounds of seals barking. Good location -within walking distance to the aquarium and surrounding areas. Quick drive into downtown. We would stay again."

"The room itself didn’t have any drawers and as we were there for three nights, wanted to put our clothes away it also didn’t have a closet to hang anything, but a hook all in all it was just a roadside, travel and clean, comfortable wildly overpriced for the value, but everything in the area is wildly overpriced They didn’t make up the bed for our three nights stay or change towels at all. The best part was waking up at 1:30 in the morning to a blaring fire alarm that was just malfunctioning."
