"We stayed at the apartment for four nights while visiting family in the area and had a great experience. The apartment is spacious, very well equipped, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. There are two flights of stairs to access the apartment — this wasn’t an issue for us, but it’s something to bear in mind for guests with mobility considerations. The Mill Hotel

8/10 Good

"Staff very helpful, we asked to switch rooms which they accommodated without arguing. Overall hotel rooms were 'tired', with mould around some windows and the accumulation of dirt in some corners. Unable to open the sash windows without them falling closed again, had to prop open with a piece of plastic I found. We had 2 rooms for our party, but though the rooms were the same price, one was nearly half the size of the other. Location really nice."

"Seven was very well located on the top of the cliff overlooking the pier and close to the cliff lift. It had a private car park at the back. Check in was fine and the staff were helpful and polite. The room was clean and tidy and well equipped. Our room had plenty of hanging space but no drawers or useful shelves for clothes. Tea and coffee provided. My only comment would be the bathroom door opened through the walk in shower which was a bit odd, if someone was in the shower you couldn't really walk in to the bathroom, and the grout/tiles round the base were looking a bit tired and stained. Other than that I really can't fault it. We ate in Aurum in the evening which is a lovely restaurant, maybe a touch expensive for what it was but prices in the south are maybe a bit more than the north of England anyway. The food was good and we had a tasty breakfast there the next day. We would definitely stay there again if we were in Southend area"

"The room was fine, good size, clean, everything in working order. However, the room was extremely hot with no air conditioning and there was a lot of noise from outside. Staff were very helpful, allowed us to check in early but unable to change our room to reduce heat or noise as the hotel was full. Breakfast was good, plenty of choice."

"Staff were all very helpful and courteous and the room was clean and spacious but little details like a small fridge and maybe bottled water would not go amiss! What really let the venue down was being told after 6 pm they couldn’t serve alcohol from the bar due to the alcohol licence lapsing which was not a good look for many guests staying and left the poor bar staff having to deal with explaining to several irate customers which the staff dealt with well! Also not the fault of the hotel but very noisy guests above us slamming doors and thumping around most of the night like they had hobnail boots on and it sounded as if they were moving furniture so this led to a very broken night’s sleep which was a shame because the bed was very comfortable!"

Wivenhoe House Hotel

"We had a two night stay at Wivenhoe House hotel whilst attending a wedding. We booked a standard room which was adequate for our needs, it was clean and comfortable, bathroom had a lovely shower with complimentary products provided. I was impressed by the ‘real’ milk in the mini fridge, makes a big difference to your tea/coffee compared to the long life variety. There is plenty of breakfast options to choose from, they have covered all preferences, no complaints about what we had. Finally, I must mention how friendly and helpful the staff are at Wivenhoe House Hotel, each one we met had a smile, even if we just passed them in the corridor, well done Wivenhoe House, it makes a difference 😊"
