Was informed that the kitchen was closed on arrival, unfortunately there is not much open in Malton on a Monday night. I was informed that I was being given a room upgrade, the room smelt like the drains needed cleaning, luckily it was a warm night and I was able to leave the window open all night. Shame as the setting is idyllic and should be a great place to stay

Absolutely loved our room it was spacious and the big bath was a plus in the bathroom we loved it. The area was quiet. Not far to walk to amenities at all.

A traditional old fashioned hotel set in large grounds a five minute walk from the centre of Malton. Friendly, helpful staff. Clean rooms and modern bathroom with shower. Traditional breakfast cooked to order.

Lovely staff, lovely old hotel from first impression but desperately needs updating. Beds are very uncomfortable, mattresses need changing, way too thin and old. My room had what looks like a leak previously in the ceiling corner with mould growing on it. A good few plug sockets with tape over them with do not use written on them. For safety I think an electrician should be called out for these. Shower screen had no rubber on the bottom so after having a shower the floor was awash with water, floor needs replacing in the bathroom as well, very uneaven and unstable.

Beautiful 400 yr old property … from the outside ! Unfortunately wasn’t as nice inside , very dated with lots of maintenance repairs to be addressed , bed was lumpy , pillows were lumpy , we had a feature room but it was definitely a 2 star stay for a 4/5 star price ! Won’t stay again but the receptionist was very nice

Very helpful and pleasant staff. The area was quiet and easily walkable into Mallon. My only minor gripe was an uncomfortable bed. That aside we had a really nice stay although only 1 night.

It’s a very old building so expect some ‘quirks’. That said, everything worked, the bathroom/shower was great and it’s very quiet so I had an amazingly lovely sleep.

Old World charm
It was a wonderful location within walking distance of shopping and restaurants. We had dinner at their restaurant which was excellent: attentive staff, warm atmosphere and tasty menu selections. The accommodations had Old World charm with modern conveniences.

Not value for money!
The room was comfortable and tastefully decorated. The lighting in the bathroom was poor making shaving difficult. This stay was over priced for a luxury double. The couple who came with us had a far better room as a standard, even with a four poster bed! We were given 1 small bottle of shampoo and just 1 packet of shortbread biscuits!

We liked the fact the Old Lodge is 400 years old with character and features. Plenty of free Off Road Parking. We didn't like the fact that on the phone we were told breakfast was included in the price but when we arrived at the hotel we were told breakfast was £37 per day. We decided not to eat at the Old Lodge on principle.

Disappointing Stay
Booked one of the “Feature Rooms” because of the images showing four poster beds with standalone bathtubs in the room. This is not what I was provided with unfortunately. We were given the keys to room 1. It was large, but very outdated. It did not contain a four poster bed or a bathtub (the bathroom had only an old electric shower in a cubicle). I was very disappointed from first stepping into this room because it was not what I was led to believe I had booked. I would’ve asked for another room, but I arrived late on a Saturday night and hotel was completely filled up with no option to change rooms. The bathroom was small, cold and sterile. There was also mould on the window sills. There were plenty of towels provided. The bedroom itself was slightly more accommodating. The sheets were clean. However, the decor and general wear & tear of the room suggested to me it hadn’t been renovated in a very long time. In addition to the contents of the room, it was an incredibly cold night and the only heating was a small electric heater which barely functioned. It was therefore not a comfortable night’s rest. There was a lounge area which again was very outdated. Even the TV looked several years old and the channel selection was very poor. Breakfast was included but, based on our experience to that point, we decided not to risk it and travelled to York to eat. Overall, it was a very disappointing stay and we do not expect to return.

Relaxing stay in a lovely environment.
The hotel could benefit from some updating. Having said this it is a welcoming hotel and all the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a convenient location and wonderful environment. I had a relaxing stay and certainly would go back.

Positives- The hotel has a cosy, intimate feel. The bar area with the open fire is lovely to relax in. Our feature room (4) is spacious and comfortable with good lighting, a full length mirror for getting ready, and a view over the garden. It was mostly clean. Negatives- The toilet needed a good bleaching, the shower was just a trickle, the shampoo provided was rubbish. The meal in the restaurant was probably the worst I’ve ever (not) eaten, and I’m not fussy. They had run out of burgers. Do not get the butter chicken unless you want 4 small pieces of chicken and an entire clove in every bite. It was inedible. I complained but no discount was offered. In the bar I took my glass back as courtesy and the barman used the same glass for the next drink, which wasn’t actually for me, it was for my partner. £175 for one night isn’t cheap, and I think there should be a little more luxury for that. It was just bog standard.

Stayed in old lodgings, was nice to be away from main building. Receptionsit was having some sort of trivial work chat with another colleague during my check in, it came across as rude. No wifi in room, only in kitchen, mold on blinds. Pillows and duvet flat, needs replacing. Spacious rooms, felt like an apaprtment. Lovely communal kitchen/living room. Microwave would make it a lot better

The breakfast was lovely!
We spent a little more than we could have, to secure a "Luxury" room at the Old Lodge. When we got there, we found wallpaper peeling from the walls, damp patches in one corner on the wall/ceiling and the place just generally looked down at heel. In the bathroom, there was mould and rust on the fixtures in the shower, the shower wasn't brilliant, with a loose bracket for the shower head, and the seal was missing from the bottom of the shower screen. That was found when we had finished our showers, leaning against the architrave, for some reason. The wash-hand basin was cracked, as well. The whole room/ensuite could have done with a good scrub. The breakfast was lovely, but I wouldn't want to stay there again. :-(

Pleasant Stay
Lovely old building with the quirks you would associate with property of this age. The Staff were very friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Weather was very pleasant for the time of year and Malton is handy for visiting other locations in the beautiful North Yorkshire countryside. Would certainly stay here again.

Lovely historic country house set in beautiful grounds. In the centre of Malton, with all the pubs, restaurants , shops & railway station within easy walking distance. The Old Lodge is full of character with large comfortable bedrooms. With very friendly helpful staff.

Very Small Room
We were given rooms a 3-5 minute walk down the road towards town, which was OK but could be difficult for some. My room was more standard 2-3 star than 4 star, very small, very hot (it was a hot day, but I was given a fan when I asked) and there was a bath in the room itself with a shower cable intergrated, so really just a bath. When we arrived at 5pm the room was only just ready. We avoided breakfast as was £18 and back up at the hotel, found better options just as close in town. Dissapointing experience and although we had a good rate, value was questionable.
