"Great location near the river. River view and garden view rooms. We had a garden view room but our outside balcony still had a river view. Room clean but might need to update the bathroom to handwashing, moisturiser, shampoo and conditioner dispensers. Great to have the Hotel within the facility, ordered pizza the first night and ate it in our room. Second night went into the restaurant great menu, good service. Didn’t use the pool too cold but it still looked well kept."

Frequently asked questions

When is the most affordable time to visit Loxton?
The most affordable time to visit Loxton is typically during the shoulder seasons, specifically autumn (March to May) and spring (September to November), avoiding the peak summer months and major school holidays. During these periods, the weather is pleasant, and you'll find better deals on accommodation and potentially cheaper flights if you're travelling from further afield.

For solo travellers, visiting in autumn or spring means less crowded attractions and a more relaxed atmosphere, making it easier to snag a good deal on a motel room or a spot at a caravan park. You can enjoy the town's riverside charm and explore the local produce markets without the summer rush, often finding lower prices on local goods too.

Families might also find these shoulder seasons ideal. The milder temperatures are great for outdoor activities along the Murray River, and many of Loxton's family-friendly attractions, like the Loxton Historical Village, are more enjoyable without the intense summer heat.
Is Loxton a budget-friendly destination?
While Loxton is generally considered more expensive than some other regions in Australia due to its remote location, travellers can absolutely experience its charm on a budget with some smart planning.

For accommodation, families and couples can look for caravan parks or holiday rentals outside the peak season. These often provide self-catering facilities, allowing for significant savings on food. Consider staying in nearby towns if Loxton itself proves too pricey, as the Riverland region is relatively compact and easy to navigate by car.

Much of Loxton's appeal lies in its natural beauty and community spirit, which can be enjoyed for free. Families can spend days exploring the banks of the Murray River, enjoying picnics, or visiting the Loxton Historical Village, which often has affordable entry or special family rates. The town also hosts various community events and markets throughout the year that are free to attend and offer a glimpse into local life.

Dining can be kept affordable by utilising self-catering options or by seeking out local bakeries and cafes for inexpensive meals. For couples, a relaxed evening meal at a local club or pub can offer good value compared to more formal restaurants.
What free activities should we do in Loxton?
For budget-conscious travellers visiting Loxton, there are several wonderful free activities to enjoy that showcase the town's natural beauty and history. You can start by exploring the tranquil banks of the Murray River, which offers picturesque spots for picnics, birdwatching, or simply relaxing by the water.

A must-do for solo travellers and couples alike is a stroll through the Loxton Historical Village. This open-air museum provides a fascinating glimpse into the region's past with its collection of historic buildings and machinery, all accessible without an entry fee. It's a great way to immerse yourself in local heritage.

Another excellent free option is to walk or cycle along the Loxton Riverfront Precinct. This area features well-maintained pathways with stunning river views, great for a leisurely afternoon outing. You might even spot some local wildlife.
