"We spent 6 nights in a Deluxe Ocean View room. The room was renovated, clean and with a fabulous view over the Coral Sea. The staff were all fabulous, from room cleaning staff, reception and restaurant staff. We cannot wait to return in the future. Thank you."

Palm Bay Resort

"Fantastic location, with beautiful bush walks to neighbouring bays and access to reefs by tour. Only one restaurant on site but the food was delicious and decent prices for an island resort. You are in the forest so you might encounter insects and small spiders in the room. Wallabies living in and around the resort, amazing to see!"

"Nice 4 night stay. Room was comfortable-no tv reception but a good on demand movie selection for relaxing in the evening. Food was good -pizzas and the Christmas is July buffet especially. Breakfast by the reef each morning was enjoyable. We saw lots of wildlife -whales, dolphins and even a sea turtle. There were lots of kids (school holidays)."

InterContinental Hayman Great Barrier Reef by IHG

InterContinental Hayman Great Barrier Reef by IHG

8/10 Good
"First room was terrible! Spiderwebs, and very unclean, barely 3 stars, dated and very dirty! The bed was terrible! probably one of the worst ever in our travels - the mattress completely sank and couldn’t sleep! We got upgraded to the next category which was acceptable and close to 4.5 star perhaps. Dinner at the Pacific was average and expensive. Not good value. Breakfast was probably 3.5 star. The best dinner and highlight was Amici’s which we were fortunate to experience on our last evening. The island itself is spectacular and one of the most beautiful in the world. I think what let the overall place down was the lack of cleanliness and the lack of attention to detail as well as the food. The staff were lovely. However the service when we were ringing to request things was terrible as most of the time our calls were not answered. Overall a paradisaic experience let down by a lack of resources, passion and training - let down by humans - a paradise deserves perfection at least close to it .. the intercontinental fell very short of the mark and what could’ve been."

Discovery Parks - Airlie Beach

Discovery Parks - Airlie Beach

"We really loved staying here. Great facilities like the waterpark, pool, and jumping pillow. They also had little karts and e-bikes you could hire for an additional fee. The playground was a bit old and run down. Rooms were tidy and beds were super comfortable but some of the furniture like the chairs in the kitchen were a bit old and dirty. Otherwise well maintained and clean. Staff were always friendly and helpful. You can take a public bus for 50c just outside the hotel in both directions so can easily get into town, the port of airlie or shute harbour, or further out to Cannonvale. Maps and timetables available. Also the Northerlies Beach Bar and Grill will do free shuttles out to their beautiful venue. Some tours will also provide free shuttles to the marina for their activities. Others charge a fee. Overall a great stay. We stayed in a superior 1 bedroom cabin which was spacious for us and actually has a sliding door separating the main living room from it, and another separating it from the main bedroom with queen bed. Toilet/bathroom comes off the small area with the bunk as well."
