Hope Valley’s best kept secret?
A really good place to stay. Bro g off the beaten track a little it was not subjected to loads of passing traffic and noise. Room was comfortable. Food excellent. Those working there were very friendly and helpful.

Great stay in the Peak District
A lovely village location for walking in the Peak District. Also supported with public transport to other nearby towns. Hope train station also close by. Friendly staff and excellent food and drink on offer.

Disappointed by the rooms. For example in one of the rooms we used there was only one bedside table, a tiny tv mounted high in the room corner, one hanger in the wardrobe. Noisy plumbing and radiator in bathroom unable to turn off. Cobwebs and dust showed that the room had not been cleaned properly. This could be a great place to stay if the owners invested some time and money in improving and updating the rooms.

The accomodation is separate to the main public house which was a bonus. No noise from the main public building. Our room was lovely except for a couple of minor issues, which weren't worth reporting as didn't inconvenience us during our stay but housekeeping and maintenance might be worth double checking. Large carpark. The pub itself is very nice, spacious, good food both for our evening meal and breakfast. Staff were lovely, nice atmosphere. Definitely the better of the three pubs we visited that afternoon/evening. Good choice of ales and other drinks. We didn't use the outdoor areas but I imagine in the summer it would be very nice and lots of seating. We would visit again both to stay over and just to visit for food and drinks.

Really, really bad
We booked a single night here and have regretted it since. We checked in to grubby rooms with the heating not working. When a fan heater was placed into the room, it caused the smell from the carpet to emerge: they said the room had been previously flooded and clearly had not changed the carpets afterwards. Beer was good, service was good, and food was mostly straight out of the deep freeze. The "Posh Fish and Chips" (nothing posh about them) came at a health cost to me - the following morning's stomach cramps were followed by violent vomiting. When told abut the stomach cramps there was absolutely no interest from the landlady. The pub is okay if you can put up with shrill screaming children and barking dogs while you are trying t enjoy a quiet evening, but the accommodation really is bad. Every step in the room above was accompanied by the loud creaks if a badly made floor which was so thin I could hear the snoring of the guests above. There are no redeeming features here.

Food & Service Good - Rooms are a disappointment
Don't really like leaving negative reviews - so here are the positives: The food & service is good and the views are lovely. The whole place needs a refresh and a good clean - plenty of dust and cobwebs (especially on the restaurant pulldown blinds). The room was not nice, the furniture was dated and the bed/mattress looked really old - I choose to sleep on top of the bed instead of in it. Feet stuck to the floor in the bathroom and there are brown stains on the floor behind the toilet bowl. A knob was missing on the shower controls making it difficult to use. Unfortunately, will not be returning

Couldn’t relax due to noisy room
Noise from creaking floor boards above was horrendous, every movement echoed through the room. Good that they allow pets, but the carpet was covered dog hair, not nice if you don’t have a dog. No WiFi in room as advertised, only in the bar. Evening meal service was terrible, meals on menu not available, informed 20minutes after ordering starter that soup was not available. Meal took over 45 mins to arrive and then they had substituted the listed vegetables with other veg which I did not like and was not informed about. Only 1 good point The cooked breakfast was very good with good portions

Excellent stay
The rooms and the pub were cosy. The wood fires smelled great and we were gutted we were already attending an even so didnt have dinner there. Breakfast was also great. We left a purse in the room by accident and the hotel made contact and posted it back to us intact, excellent service

Potential but disappointing
Lovely location but disappointed with the overall stay. Bin hadn’t been emptied from the previous occupant. Poor service delivered on a 5 night stay. No changing of towels until the last night which was a bit pointless by then. The room was dated and roasting hot. Breakfast was a meat feast every day with no options for cereal and the pub was quite busy so noisy in the room up until 11pm and because the window opened up directly under the room below when the person smoked the 2nd hand smoke came directly into the room I was staying in. Not very nice for a non smoker

Could be a wonderful place to stay.
The location of this inn is spectacularly good and I would love to give it a perfect review. Sadly though, there were a couple of things that let it down. We were there for 4 nights and had no hot water for 2 days. This seems to be a recurring problem and affected other guests as well as us. There is no WiFi in the rooms, which is where you need it as phone signal is very poor. You have to be in the bar to get WiFi. Whereas it didn't affect us as we are vegetarians, they were telling other guests one morning that they had everything for breakfast except for sausages and bacon! For many people, they are the essentials of breakfast! That same evening, the pub ran out of beer! Stock control seems to be an issue here. We were there during a heatwave and there was no fan in the room. I know these were unusual conditions, but it would have made it more comfortable and they are not expensive items. We would have appreciated vegetarian/vegan sausages to be available at breakfast, something that is pretty much normal these days. All of these things are easily remedied ( apart from the water system possibly) but would have made a huge difference. The many plus points of this inn would certainly tempt us back again, but we'll read the reviews to make sure we can get a warm shower in the mornings!

Avoid like the plague... !!!
Arrived with my partner for his birthday after an hours drive to be told that our deluxe room was taken and they were fully booked. They had doubled booked our room. Now they could have removed the guests that had booked later than us but palmed us off with a cheap bottle of wine and tried to ditch us at any other local hotel at our inconvenience. We had to cancel our meal booking at a local restaurant only 2 hours before we were due to eat. We decided to go home which meant we had packed and travelled for over 2 hours , wasted fuel, and quite upsetting for the surprise partners birthday. It appeared that between three of the staff that they could not understand how to use their own booking service. No compensation offered and they should be struck off any service that links to bookings on the net. Their mistakes ruined our special day ! Avoid ... !

Great area to stay out of the way which we like. Lady who greeted us was very pleasent as was the pub itself. We enjoyed our stay because of this. Room needs a little more attention to detail compared to other places we've stayed in. You could see the bed base which was tatty. Scatter cushions and throw looked grubby and the stool was broken. No hairdryer or WiFi in the room as stated on the ebookers site. Bathroom cleaner than the room, again little things such as toilet roll holder and toilet brush that you didn't have to put your hand into the container to get. Toilet buttons missing.

Fairly Basic but a Good Stay
I arrived at 3pm and had to wait about an hour for someone to arrive to check me in. No one was around to answer the phone. The staff was very friendly, particularly the breakfast lady (I definitely recommend giving yourself enough time for the full English) and the bartender. The room was a bit dated, but everything was functional and I did not mind. The bed was a bit old though and sagged, but I didn't find it uncomfortable for the two nights I was there. Overall, I had an enjoyable experience and would stay there again if I went back to the area.

The breakfast was like something out of Grimsby me and the misses was howling the toast was like a rock the bacon was unchewable one of the locals in the pub asked if I sold a bit of gimp/coke all and all is day avoid my children 😂😂😂 unless your not in a couple then by all means get on it

Awful
Other people’s rubbish left in bathroom. Room going mouldy. Dog hairs all over carpet Check in woman told us nothing about breakfast times etc and no information in rooms re fire safety or out of hours emergencys Breakfast. No cereal except for granola with nuts which I can’t eat. Asked about other cereal and nothing. Woman looked like she had just got out of bed. Frayed offering no tomatoes no mushrooms no black pudding and the answer when asked was run out and sausages so raw couldn’t eat and cold beans Told owner when left he pretended he knew nothing about this and wasn’t interested Also fan or something going off all night He wasn’t interested in refunding any money don’t bother going it’s not worth it
