"The property is lovely! The garden is filled with fruit trees. The house is well appointed and modern. Clean as a whistle! Merlyn is a charming friendly host who will meet whatever your needs might be. You will enjoy a location that is quiet and rural so don’t expect great shopping or touristy events."

Nice little cottage oasis on a tropical fruit orchard consisting of many fruits.

"Beautiful peaceful setting off grid. Merlyn is a fantastic host and so sweet. Her fruit trees are out of this world and we had complete access to partake. It only takes about 25-30 minutes to get to Volcanoes National Park."

"Unfortunately, this property didn’t live up to our expectations from the description provided by the host. There is only an air conditioner in the dining room, none in the bedrooms (fans were provided). When opening windows to cool bedrooms to sleep, the noise from the rooster breeding across the street and the major road behind the home were excessive. The kitchen was virtually unusable. There were 3 drinking glasses, one small bowl and one small omelet pan (for a home that sleeps 9). Most of the appliances and the oven (except for the coffeemaker)were filthy. It would have been nice to have a box of tissues. ÌThe water is not drinkable. A filter pitcher was provided but based on the condition of other items, we didn’t feel comfortable using it and bought water.This would have been a great accommodation for our party of 4 if it weren’t for these items."

"Misleading description and disappointing experienceThe listing advertises “no hidden fees,” but there were additional charges not disclosed upfront. There is a 10 fee per load of laundry and a 30/day charge if air conditioning is used while you are out, with usage reportedly monitored. The kitchen is described as “fully equipped” and suitable to “cook up a feast,” but only one burner on the electric stove was functional. This issue should have been disclosed prior to arrival. The microwave is very small (unable to fit a standard dinner plate), there is no rice cooker, and one of the two TV trays was broken. Preparing meals required significantly more time and effort than expected.There were also cleanliness and maintenance concerns. There's mold in multiple areas of the living room, and bugs were present throughout the space. Also had a problem with pricing transparency. I booked for two guests, later added a third and let he owner know upon arrival, I was immediately told there would be an extra 15/day fee, totaling 90, I checked the booking platform, the price difference between two and three guests was significantly lower. When I asked if this fee could be reconsidered given the issues during the stay, the request was declined."

"Even though the house was charming, it was not adequately described on the website. From the pictures I would not have known the second bedroom was an upstairs loft that you had to climb a ladder to access. Luckily we are all fairly mobile and can climb a ladder!Also, is having a frig an amenity? It wasn’t listed as an amenity, but I thought that would be standard with your location. And if it wasn’t, at least let your visitors know there is no refrigerator! There was an ice cooler, but no mention to bring ice! We had perishables that we had bought before arriving, and then had to go back out to get ice so they wouldn’t spoil! Then there was no key provided for the home so when we left for the day we either had to bring all our valuables with us, or be worried if they would still be there when we returned! The house was pretty remote and private, quite a ways into the country, so we chanced it and left most of our stuff there.Getting more toilet paper from the host was challenging. We did run out even after letting the host know we were low. They brought 1 roll eventually. 1 towel for each of us was provided and I asked about if we could get clean towels after 2 days of use, but apparently that wasn’t part of the deal. We did hang our towels after using them, but they never dried completely so after 4 days of use we were ‘drying’ ourselves with wet, sour towels. I smelled worse after my shower than if I hadn’t taken one. "

"The Birds Nest was a great stay. The check-in process was seamless and due to our late arrival, the hosts were very gracious and left lights on AND sourdough muffins. The home is clean, very inviting and great combo of in and outdoor spaces. "
