Depending on where you're coming from, your trip to Islandia could be completely stress-free or it could go on forever. We've put together some handy hints that will help you start your next great escape on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• A plane trip can be a comfortable experience if you bring the right gear. First things first, you'll need basic toiletries, such as deodorant and a toothbrush, a spare pair of socks and a good novel. Secondly, leave space in your carry-on bag for your phone and charger, any medications and perhaps a quality neck pillow too. Lastly, and most importantly, don't forget to bring your passport, travel documents and some cash.

Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:

• Squeeze all your full-sized bottles of shampoo and conditioner in your checked luggage. Any liquids in your carry-on bag larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) will be confiscated by authorities. What to wear on a flight:

• Deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clot condition caused by lengthy periods of inactivity, can be a risk on long-haul flights. Walk around the cabin and give your legs a stretch or do some simple exercises in your seat to promote better circulation.
