“Auckland Oaks”

First time visitor to Auckland. The Reception is manned by a Reception person who doubles in other jobs with no expertise at any of them. When 24 HR Reception was asked if they could assist in renting a car the reply was "There is a car rental place in Beach Road but I dont have their name or number,but if you walk there you can see for yourself." There was roadworks going on in the street ALL night. The rooms whilst quite well appointed are very prone to the effects of road noise. Did not sleep well at all. There are several Massage Parlours in very close proximity to the Hotel. Fire Alarms at night caused a degree of confusion and in some cases real panic.The recorded message over the PA advised that, in part "You can leave if you want to !" There was NO other communication to guests in relation to an all clear advice etc etc after Fire Brigade had attended. There were elderly and ill persons I WILL DEFINITELY NOT RECOMMEND this hotel. I booked this hotel after perusing the internet, so the phrase "caveat emptor" really does apply here. cannot wait to return there.

Area recommendations

Parnell ! It is the oldest part of Auckland and boasts many culturally significant places for the visitor. There are many fine restaurants in the immediate area and although inner city it is far enough away from some of the noisier parts of the city. With the Explorer Buses and Link Bus system the public transport in Auckland is really outstanding ! and getting around this wonderful city is easy.
