I stayed at the Peace Hotel with my three children. Pros: excellent breakfast and very convenient to metro and shopping. Cons: rooms and lobby could use updating and my teenage and adult son had to share a foldout couch which was not advertised ahead of time when we booked a room for four people. The nonsmoking floors smell strongly of cigarettes in the hallway.

Staff were good if a bit clinical in general.
But a very nice touch - a birthday cake was delivered to our room because they noticed we had a birthday in our group! (Likely due to guest registration details.)
Room itself was superb - good fit-out, good condition, and faultless air-con and shower.
Gym was the best I've seen in a hotel anywhere in the world! Good range of equipment, well-maintained.
Only negative was the swimming pool - it wasn't in the best shape and could do with a freshen up.

"This was a Hutong Hotel to experience old Beijing living. It was fun! We enjoyed meeting other people too in the common area.(tip: better to use Baidu maps, than Google maps when traveling in Beijing)"
