Get into holiday mode with a lazy day in the sun at Tweed Heads’ magnificent beaches. Many of the area’s best swimming spots are patrolled by lifeguards. Shallow estuaries and lagoons provide additional family-friendly swimming opportunities. Rent a surfboard or join a surf school and check out the rolling swells along the Tweed Heads coast. Kayak or stand-up paddleboard around Terranora Creek and snorkel around the headland. Deep-sea fishing and beach fishing are popular. Charter tours operate regularly from the Tweed Heads wharf.

Escape busier town beaches and check out Letitia Spit and Dreamtime Beach, where you can lay out a towel and take in far-north New South Wales’ seemingly endless sunshine. Watch for dolphins at nearby Point Danger Lookout or spot whales between June and November. For an invigorating coastal walk, try the trail climbing the headland to Fingal Head Lighthouse.

Make a trip to the Minjungbal Aboriginal Cultural Centre, which has a museum, gallery and riverside walking track through beautiful eucalypt woodlands and Tweed River mangroves. Fourteen different national parks around Tweed Heads, including the majestic volcano-formed mountain ranges near Mount Warning, offer fantastic hiking opportunities through ancient rainforests and native bushland.

Tweed Heads is located on the north-easternmost tip of New South Wales. It is part of the Legendary Pacific Coast Touring Route. Queensland’s Gold Coast Airport is the nearest airport to the town. Southern Queensland, including Tweed Heads’ neighbour Coolangatta, is in easy reach.
